[edit]Why did the family name change from Howard to Fitzalan-Howard between the 13th and 14th dukes? I would normally look to the mother here, but there seems to be no connection between anyone and an "Alan" or "Fitzalan". --Saforrest 20:00, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. This is apparently a reference to the wife of Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk, although why they chose to amend the family name 300 years after the fact is puzzling. --Saforrest 20:07, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Victorian medieval/antiquarian romanticism. Source: I'm an archivist in their archives. Sorry for the 10-years-too-late answer. Null Strand (talk) 12:45, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
