Notes on updating this article

[edit]

Over the next few days, weeks or months I am going to be doing a major factual upgrade on this site. As I do I will try to add notes on what I am doing in some cases. For example right now I am going to update the references to {{sfn}} style because I will be needing multiple citations. This strictly speaking violates Wikipedia guidelines, but it is for the betterment of the general article. LaurentianShield (talk) 22:52, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've heard from an informed source that the photo on the article is not of Henry Dodge, and that no know photos of Dodge exist. Following the image link back the source seems to confirm it is not Henry Dodge, as the Library of congress site identifies it only as "Unidentified man, head-and-shoulders portrait, facing front". The Wisconsin Historical Society does have an oil painting of Dodge on their website (https://www.wisconsinhistory.org/Records/Image/IM2613) but I'm not sure whether it can be used here. I want to remove the photo from this article, but I see it is used on multiple pages and don't want to go about this incorrect (returning to wikipedia after a 10 year absence). Okay, with a few minutes reading I'm convinced the oil painting has no copyright issues, and I see it's already uploaded to the commons, so I am going to change all instances of this photo in reference to Henry dodge over to the oil painting, and modify the photos description. Category:American slave owners

[edit]

No mention of slave-owning. I feel that this category should be restricted to people whose slave-owning history was notable in itself. Valetude (talk) 08:04, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Black Hawk war

[edit]

His participation in the massacre at Bad Axe is missing, as a commander of the militias that committed atrocities he should be recognized. 107.126.28.2 (talk) 12:34, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
