Restored page (Aug 2008)
[edit]With Cejudo's gold medal in the 2008 Olympics, this page should be expanded. I have provided a quick rewrite, so hopefully we can expand on this. SirFozzie (talk) 12:49, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Henry went to my school in phoenix,az called Maryvale High School. I don't know if this should be added? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.190.58.111 (talk) 00:38, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Do we have a reliable source? Was he participating for Maryvale when he won his two state championships? Just questions that need to be answered. SirFozzie (talk) 02:11, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- According to the New York Times article here, "He won four state championships at Maryvale." I'm not sure how to reconcile this with the current edit, which states that he won 2 championships in Arizona and 2 in Colorado. The article I've linked to says that he won four state championships in Maryvale, with a 150-0 record during his time there, and -then- moved to Colorado. Best, -- Docether (talk) 15:19, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Here's the cite for the 2 in Arizona and 2 in Colorado. [1] SirFozzie (talk) 15:30, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Ah! Found the issue, He means Henry's brother, Angel Cerudo (who is a nationally ranked freestyle wrestler as well).. Angel’s life changed, too, for better and for worse. He was the first Cejudo brother to take to wrestling, the first to become a star. He won four state championships at Maryvale. He had a 150-0 record. SirFozzie (talk) 16:15, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Good catch -- thanks for clearing up my misunderstanding. -- Docether (talk) 16:28, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- I dont know if he won his state championships while attending Maryvale but there have been announcements and things like that at my school saying that he did.
Edit: I found some articles: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/olympics/articles/2008/08/19/20080819spt-olywrestle.html and http://phoenix.about.com/b/2008/08/20/maryvale-can-be-proud-of-henry-cejudo.htm
- Henry did win the two state championships when he was a freshman and sophomore at my school maryvale: http://www.azcentral.com/12news/news/articles/2008/09/11/20080911cejudohome091108-CR.html He's coming to a school pep rally 2morrow! Retired, not retired, who knows?
[edit]This is a quick primer for people not familiar with the Henry Cejudo vs. Dana White money negotiation saga.
For starters, please read these articles:
Many UFC fighters and commentators view "retirement" announcement as a negotiation ploy
Cerudo states that "there is a number" (ie a money amount) that Dana White could offer him to bring him back
I'm not saying that we should keep "retired" out of the article indefinitely. But in light of everyone's statements, it's far too early to call Cejudo definitely retired, and we should proceed with caution. There's no hurry. JimKaatFan (talk) 23:31, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- As of this writing, both the UFC champions page and the ESPN champions page list Cejudo as the current bantamweight champion. JimKaatFan (talk) 23:48, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- Pinging Picograms to make him aware that this is the proper place to engage in discussion on this topic. JimKaatFan (talk) 04:10, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
- Let's try this again - pinging @Picograms: and @Regice2020: to make them aware that Picograms' talk page is not the right place to have this discussion; this page is. Also pinging @Cassiopeia: and @NEDOCHAN: as they have been previously involved in this discussion. Thank you all for your contributions and hard work. JimKaatFan (talk) 23:25, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
- @JimKaatFan:, Cejudo retirement was stated by sources and he is no longer in P4P and Bantamweight champion listed in UFC ranking website - see here UFC ranking which meant he is "retired" and the page should reflect as per source. If Cejudo returns to compete again either under UFC or other organisations, then we change his status as per source. It is common among the MMA fighters to announced their retirements then come back 6 months or a few years later. The point here is that Wikipedia is all about verification and not about if, if the sources stated his is retired then he is retired until sources say other wise. Stay safe JimKaatFan and best. Cassiopeia(talk) 09:19, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Cassiopeia: Yeah, agreed, now that UFC has actually removed him from the rankings, it's now appropriate to say his title is vacated as well. Thanks for stepping in. And for our really eager editors, a reminder that Wikipedia is not a newspaper, and we're not here to cover breaking news, or make inferences based on news - just to reflect what sources report. Thanks everyone. JimKaatFan (talk) 12:53, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

A shocking update; Cejudo has announced he wants to fight again. Wow, no one saw that coming.

"triple C" nickname
[edit]This attempted addition by @Picograms: has been reverted multiple times by @Cassiopeia:. It's turning into a bizarre slow-motion edit war. I personally have no opinion on whether that nickname should be included in the infobox (yet), but I do know that I'll keep removing it if Picograms continues to add it without consensus. I attempted to discuss it with Picograms on their talk page, here, but they removed it a whole 6 minutes later, here, which to me is a sign that they're not interested in discussing, just adding it when they think no one will notice. That's not going to fly. JimKaatFan (talk) 20:51, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
