Layout problem
[edit]Despite the efforts of Rfassbind to fix the table layout problem by making the columns a fixed height, it hasn't worked. I don't know why, but on my browser the columns are slightly different heights in spite of being specified as the same value, and the layout breaks if the rightmost one happens to be a bit shorter - in which case the next columm is placed directly below it, rather than starting again from the left margin. Specifically, for me, with three columns across the page, the one staring at 34892 is misplaced, but by zooming in or out I can see the same problem occurs with pretty much any number of columns. I don't know enough about Wiki markup to attempt a repair. Please help! 2.99.207.130 (talk) 20:21, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
- Actually, I think I see what the problem is. The specified table height is a minimum value. The table will not be smaller than this, but it may be bigger if it needs more space. And some of the tables do need more space than the specified 1300px, because the cell height is larger if it has to accommodate subscripts (though not, apparently, superscripts...). Only the first two columns, which are all named asteroids, actually fit within 1300px.
- OK, I don't know how to fix the line height problem. The subscripts seem to add an extra pixel no matter how big the line spacing is, which is annoying, and probably incorrect. But on the basis that there can't be more than 50 subscripts in any table, I've done a quick fix by simply increasing the table height to 1350px. It seems to work, at least at 100% zoom. (At some zoom levels, it still doesn't work, while at others it all lines up perfectly. But I don't know what to do about that...) 2.99.207.130 (talk) 23:40, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
- Thx, indeed on IE the CSS used for the tables was not OK. Thx for letting me know. I removed the line-height style attribute, since the overall table height is enough. I seems you edited the page while I was amending the CSS, undoing your changes. Sorry for this. Just let me know if the tables still not float correctly in your browser (presumably IE).
