Sorry about the format break, but writing this on a mobile device. I just wanted to mention that Johns Hopkins mentions that melatonin may be an effective treatment for HC. There are other sources, and melatonin has a similar anti-inflammatory property as indomethacin. I can't place the link due to the limits of my device, but a clever Wikipedian and a Google search will show what I'm talking about. It's worth adding to the treatment section. - unknowncity
My
[edit]My wife is diagnosed with Hemicrania Continua - but did not place any of the material in this article.
The article appears largely accurate - although it should perhaps elaborate that the response to Indometacin although complete, is not long lasting, and break through pain is currently experienced daily. Work is underway looking at the use of Greater Occipital Nerve Blocks as an alternative and adjunct to Indometacin and other drug regimes.
If anyone reading this is unfortunate enough to be suffering from this condition, my message is this : Get a referral to the Headache team at the National Neurological Hospital in Queen Square London. If you can't get this on NHS, then pay for it.
The world's leading consultants in this field all practice from this hospital (most are listed as authors in the main Wiki article)
This is a frightening, confusing, and often depressing condition - but it IS treatable - don't worry you'll get there in the end !
