Move requested

The result of the move request was: page moved. While I was ready to move based on the discussion I did look at the inbound links and redirects. The redirects clearly favored this move. Also the succession boxes used this name. Vegaswikian (talk) 22:30, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hedwig of SchleswigHelvig of Schleswig — Her name was Heilwig in German, Helvig in Danish, Haelwig in English. Hedwig/Hedvig looks similar but is not the same name as the one this person bore. SergeWoodzing (talk) 12:10, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The page was moved last fall without discussion but that was far from uncontroversial, and that user should not have done so without discussion. It should be moved back to its original name or to Haelwig of Schleswig, which corresponds with its correct (though rare) English exonym. No reliable source, English or other, has ever refered to the consort of Waldemar Otherday and mother of Margaret the Great as Hedwig. If that has ever been done at all, it has been in error by an occasional early author of lesser renown, misinterpreting the name and/or not bothering to find and use the proper exonym in this case, which error then may have spread to some other publications. Such an error should not be used as an excuse to give this historical person the wrong name on WP, no matter what other circumstances may be cited. Maclagan has that from an earlier unreliable source that he copied the name from but didn't scutinize carefully enough.
Isn't it far more important what her name actually was, no matter what error may be common? Her name was not Hedwig. SergeWoodzing (talk) 21:35, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Someone should expand this article a litte and crop the picture in the infobox so it only shows her alone.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 04:21, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
