Why "see also" Coalescent ? -- Beardo 03:46, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe this must be a long gone section. --Nomentz (talk) 07:58, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Plot summary problems.

[edit]

Current version says, "Through sabotage and luck, the government Agency's spy is able to warn the outside world of the impending danger. A counter-weapon against the Hive is developed and a detente is reached by both sides that involves mutually assured destruction if either weapon is unleashed." I just read this novel, and none of that is true at all.

I don't have a source, just my own "original research" but the there's no lucky escape by the government agent, and there's no counter-weapon developed. Hellstrom has the agent captive and allows him to present what he's seen during negotiations. And the only "counter-weapon" is the threat of using nukes on the Hive, not something newly developed. 108.51.137.137 (talk) 16:40, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. --Nomentz (talk) 19:41, 14 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I notice that somebody anonymous (maybe you?) removed the paragraph containing that sentence. However, the summary contains more problems, e.g. it refers to "hybrid human-insect workers" which is not correct. I think I've read a plot summary/blurb elsewhere that refers to Hellstrom's Hive using that formulation. May I point out that WP:NOVELPLOT especially allows using the work itself as primary source for the plot only (not for interpretation)? Somebody should rewrite, I might have time in Winter. --Nomentz (talk) 07:23, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@108.51.137.137 I have the original English version and the German translation. The German translation differs from the original in that Merrivale mentions the possible use of nukes. The original does not. The German translation also differs somewhat at other parts of the novel. Marcus Schätzle (talk) 20:23, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
