Summary?

[edit]

You know what's really great to have in an encyclopedia entry about a work of literature? Some sort of brief summary of what occurs in aforementioned work of literature. The critical analysis is entirely unimportant in comparison. I've not yet read the Heliand, so I'm little help on that front. But it's definitely needed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.192.219.109 (talk) 23:30, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dutch???

[edit]

Why, pray tell User:Rex Germanus, does this article require a Dutch translation? Dutch has nothing to do with it. Ameise -- chat 01:16, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dutch is a related West Germanic language, furthermore it is a language which did not experience the High German consonant shift, like Old Saxon. It has the same rights and purpose as Standard German has of being included.
Rex 12:31, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Then you had better include the modern Low German form as well. Ameise -- chat 12:53, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And Why should I do this? Rex 14:32, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Because you added the History of Low German article, and you are the one whom insists that Dutch be included here, that must mean that you are an expect on Low German history and should add the translation here as well. Ameise -- chat 16:55, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Because I start an article on the History of Low Saxon this suddenly makes me an expert and this somehow forces me to provide a Low Saxon translation here? I don't think so. Rex 17:13, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Then how does Dutch belong here? It may be related, but English and Scots are also related languages, as is Swiss German (a variant of Plattdeutsch), so we better add those too. To be on the safe side, we should add the extinct East Germanic languages such as Vandalic and Gothic, and then even the North Germanic languages. Ameise -- chat 17:16, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Swiss German is a variant of Low German?! Get your facts straight there Antman. As for all the other languages, sure if you can find them; add them. Rex 18:06, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Err, meant Upper German there. I'm not the one adding Dutch, though; it is your responsibility to add them all now. Ameise -- chat 15:06, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think not.A Wikipedians only resposibility is to obey the comunity rules. If you want to have a swiss German version go ahead, but I'm not gonna add it. Rex 15:11, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sample Text

[edit]

I'm not sure how to properly insert this in the article but here's a translation of the Old Saxon segment shown in the Sample Text section:

“These shall you bring
To the place you shall go.
Go to the Lord, who belongs to the court
and tell him personally that I send you,
to prepare my banquet. Then will he take you to a noble house,
a high hall, which is covered all around
with rich tapestries. There shall you prepare
my entertainment. To there I will come
with my companions.” And so they, the followers of Christ,
went on towards Jerusalem
and found everything, as he had said,
his words were true: never should they doubt.

Extended Commentary needs to be split

[edit]

The extended commentary section is great, but it needs to be split into a number of smaller sections covering date of composition, place of composition, possible authorship, and the manuscript tradition. I'll do this when I have the time, but meanwhile if anyone wants to take a crack at it, be my guest. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eternalcow (talkcontribs) 17:10, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
