From 1929 to 1931, MGM Pictures produced nine "Dogville Comedies." These movies featured all-dog casts and parodied the major films of the day (one was called "So Quiet on the Canine Front"). Voice overs were provided primarily by the films' directors, Jules White and Zion Meyers.

This movie joins a LONG list of movies made based on the Johanna Spyri novel: 1. Heidi (1937, Allan Dwan) 2. Heidi (1993 TV movie, Michael Rhodes¹) 3. Heidi (1968 TV movie, Delbert Mann) 4. Arupusu no shôjo Haiji (1974 TV series, Atsuji Hayakawa...)
