[edit]Doesn't the name Heidevolk also translate as "Heathen People"? (Heathen as a form of religion and culture and heath as a natural feature both refer to pretty much the same thing, if you go back that far in history. Which one you mean by "heidevolk" can depend on the intention of the speaker and the context of conversation.) --Loupgaroublond (talk) 23:02, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- You bring up a good point there. It definitely could mean "heathen people" of "heathen folk" or that nature thing you mentioned. But, the translation on the article is sourced and is the one that I'm most familiar with. If you can come up with several reliable sources saying that it translates as what you think it could be, then post them on this talk page and it will likely be posted on the article. Thanks for your interest. BacktableSpeak to Meabout what I have done 23:09, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- In contemporary Dutch language, heide means heath and heiden means heathen. Contemporary Dutch is the language Heidevolk communes in, so the 'go back far enough in time' argument doesn't really compute. Either way, how is this classified as viking metal seeing as they sing about the Netherlands (Gelderland in particular) and Saxons? Also, taken from their website is this quote: Building its legacy since 2002, Heidevolk from the Dutch province of Gelderland forges its very own brand of pagan folk metal. There isn't a direct link for some reason, but if you go to www.heidevolk.com and then choose the options 'band' and then 'biography', the first line is the one quoted.
