Character names
[edit]@Krimuk2.0: You are an experienced editor (I beleive we have interacted before at Talk:Alia Bhatt/Archive 1#Birthplace in an amiable discussion). The prudent thing to do here would have been to start a discussion at the Talk page per BRD (STATUSQUO would apply if the content has been stable, but here it was added less than a week ago) .
1) Coming to section itself, I think I had explained the rationale for this, the issue should not realize if we are categorizing by characters which is better if there are multiple actors portraying the same.
2) Coming to the removal of alternative names of the characters, there is a reason I added some of them along with the notes. I have not watched this series and the episode titles confused me as would any average reader. I had find out that "jaan" in these episode titles was a suffix (along with what it meant) to gauage what was being implied. The note insertion in the episode section or the addition of alternative names in the character section, any of these should work.
Do let me know your what you think, I do not have any strong opinions with the first (fine with/without clubbing characters though the latter is preferable) but with the second I think changes need to be adopted especially considering the confusing episode titles for the English Wikipedia. - There's nothing confusing about the "jaan" when an explanatory note already exists. We seriously should not look down on readers and spoon-feed the obvious to them... if someone is called Bibbojaan, why do we need to clarify that she would also be called "Bibbo" from time to time? She could also be called "Bib" or "B" by someone at certain points. We simply state the name with which the character is credited in the credits, and that should be it. - Also, coming to WP:BRD and WP:STATUSQUO, yes, you were the one who was reverted so it's you who should have started the discussion to gain WP:CONSENSUS instead of edit-warring, which I'm glad you've done now. Krimuk2.0 (talk) 05:39, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- The BRD referant was also to the fact that "once again" was adduced in your edit summary for the revert i.e. shifting of the onus. Anyhow, this is an aside; coming to the issue at hand.
- I view myself as a reader, and I do not think I am looking down on myself in this case especially when I have to strain to parse episode titles. At the very least, either a note should be inserted with the episode titles or additional names should be adduced. And we have never limited ourselves to credit rolls on enwiki, character sections are frequently expanded beyond the bare bones of the official text (see for e.g. Captain America: The First Avenger#Cast). And I do not see any reason to stunt us here. Gotitbro (talk) 05:54, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
- "Bibbojaan, why do we need to clarify that she would also be called "Bibbo" from time to time? She could also be called "Bib" or "B" by someone at certain points." Because if the nickname/hypocoristic is common enough we often do. In our case moreover we have an addending suffix, simply not familiar to English readers. Gotitbro (talk) 06:03, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
