Bosniak Roots from Sandzak

[edit]

Can you add that his parents moved from Serbia to Turkey and that he speaks Serbian language too? "Hedo, we know that you are Turkish native but you are also speak same language that Vlade Divac and Peja Stojakovic are speaking. As i know, Turkish and Serbian doesn't have anything in common. Can you explain that?

Hedo Turkoglu: I'm born in Turkey but my parents are from Serbia. They moved to Turkey when they were young. When I was young they spoke Serbian, so I learned from them."

Are you blind or just a liar? Or maybe a blind liar? Hedo says that his parents are from Yugoslavia and that they spoke Yugoslavian. At that time Serbia didn't exist as a country and neither did the Serbian language!

"Ok, you need to get your facts straight. Although Yugoslavia existed at that time, Yugoslavia was a FEDERATION of states (in a similar way that USA is a UNION) and Serbia was one of those states. Secondly, Yugoslavian language didn't exist, at that time every Yugoslav spoke Serbo-Croatian (or Croato-Serbian, whichever way you prefer) which is rooted in Serbian and Croatian languages. There are differences, but it will be too long to explain so just wiki for Serbo-Croatian and you'll see." (-edited by Grole)

Current dispute

[edit]

The current edit war over who the subject is or will be signed to needs to stop right now. The article was semi protected less than 24 hours ago to stop the addition of drive by speculation by anonymous editors and now established editors are engaged in a revert war. Please use this talk page to work towards a consensus, using the reliable sources that clearly exist to word a paragraph that covers both points of view. WP:CRYSTAL states that "Avoid predicted sports team line-ups, which are inherently unverifiable and speculative" but this must be balanced to a degree against reliable reports. If he is to be signed in the future and highly reliable sources really say so, then work towards a paragraph that explains that, don't keep adding and reverting the fact that he is already signed on the basis that it hasn't actually happened yet. Continuing the edit war by reverts will result in the article being fully protected until the dispute is resolved or the matter becomes established fact. Mfield (Oi!) 18:09, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Mfield (Oi!) 18:52, 4 July 2009 (UTC) As the current revision of the article has a cited paragraph that covers the reported deal, and as that deal is not yet finalized, the current state of the article reflects accurately the state of affairs per WP:DUE and the infobox etc. should not be changed until the deal is completed and confirmed as such by official sources. Mfield (Oi!) 18:52, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I just added a note in the last paragraph. This clarifies the situation, so hopefully, there won't be another edit war. Blackjays1 (talk) 00:31, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I guarantee you that it won't help much... At least a dozen people will attempt to say he's on the Raptors before then... JustSomeRandomGuy32 (talk) 00:58, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

error in the pro career section

[edit]

the last two paragraphs in the pro career section contradict each other.

"On July 3, 2009, ESPN reported that Türkoğlu had reached an agreement with the Portland Trail Blazers. However, he backed out of the commitment with the Blazers and reportedly accepted a five-year $53 million offer from the Toronto Raptors.

On July 9, 2009, Türkoğlu was signed and traded to the Toronto Raptors as a part of a four-team deal among the Raptors, Orlando Magic, Dallas Mavericks and Memphis Grizzlies which also included Shawn Marion." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Charwinger21 (talkcontribs) 17:24, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The "Ball" response

[edit]

Just to clarify this as it was placed a few times this month, but any mention of the interview with Jack Armstrong on TSN where he answered only with the word "BALL" will be removed as it is not notable, irrelevant and violating possibly WP:BLP. Considering that many users have simply randomly put the word "BALL" or removed the entire text and replace it with "BALL" - as well as other non-constructive edits and WP:NPOV violations, the page is temporarily semi-protected. --JForget 23:29, 19 February 2010 (UTC

It is notable, and should be added! Chris Bulgin (talk) 18:11, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would say it is relevant because it was part of what helped determine the direction of his career (noteably, it's progression towards leaving toronto) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.54.237.18 (talk) 17:42, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chronic fatigue syndrome

[edit]

We need something that mentions Turkoglu and chronic fatugue syndrome in the same source. Otherwise, the edits are original synthesis. Zagalejo^^^ 00:52, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]

Now that it's confirmed that Hedo's a member of the Phoenix Suns, I feel that it shouldn't have the semi-protection on his article anymore. - AGreatPhoenixSunsFan (talk) 08:28, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

His official name is Hidayet Türkoğlu, the Americans named him "Hedo" so he is known as Hedo Türkoğlu, in Turkey they say "Hido". His name also inspired a Burger King menu called Hido Menu in Turkey during the first years of his NBA career. 188.202.146.57 (talk) 11:31, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Serbia

[edit]

I've met Hedo in July of 2000 in Vlade Divac's Camp in Sacramento. Vlade introduced Hedo to me adding that Hedo speaks Serbian Language (Bosnian is brand new invention of muslims who hate everything what's branded as "SERBIAN")! I was very happy to talk to him in my native language, I was even more amazed when he said he was born in Serbia in Sandzak region, known for its large muslim population. Than he said that the Family moved (as 6 y.o.) to Town of Stip in Macedonia (Former Yugoslavia) and shortly after he said they moved and finally emmigated to Turkey! In order to get Turkish Citizenship, they changed the names from Serbian to Turkish! Now, can anyone explain why would he lie about his birth place and some other facts? Hedo knows, just as Pedja Stojakovic, that without help of Vlade D, no one would know their respected names, jus like Aleksandar-Sasha Djordjevic, drafted by The Trailblazers in 1990, next season he was again in Europe and made to superstardom! Imagine, there's no more ENGLISH in USA, and the new one is AMERICAN Language, that's what happened in: Bosnia and Montenegro, now they have "own" brand new languages made out of Serbian... go figure how funny this is! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.203.162.126 (talk) 20:13, 16 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

His original last name was Ramicevic, that's what a trainer for the Turkish team said in an interview. The trainer said most of their players (Turkish) have roots in Bosnia/Serbia (Sandzak). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.29.174.189 (talk) 22:52, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
