Not worth keeping around
[edit]I agree with FunkMonk's merge proposal. This article is a mixture of half-truths and original research:
- Hector was the first to name the taxon Ichthyosaurus australis in 1874 and Ichthyosaurus pottsi in 1886, and Lydekker then created a substitute name Ichthyosaurus hectori in 1889
- As FunkMonk pointed out, the vernacular names are fabricated
- The taxon was never referred to the Shastasauridae; the remains are not diagnostic
- The claims of exceeding a blue whale in size are ludicrous and do not appear anywhere in the literature
Hence, a redirect to ichthyosaur is probably the best option. Lythronaxargestes (talk | contribs) 05:36, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
