- No dablinks or dead ELs
Media are all tagged properly, but could you give sources for File:Mariahcareysingle heartbreaker.jpg and File:Heartbreaker screenshot.jpeg? Also are there no free images of Carey performing Heartbreaker?
- Images done. I'm afraid there are no images at the moment, but I'll try to find one. Novice7 (talk) 15:01, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
References: Billboard sources published before Dec 2009 were published by Nielsen Business Media. References to a physical magazine (eg ref 10) need to use {{cite magazine}}, and should contain the volume, issue and ISSN numbers.- Actually, a friend posted that source so I'm not sure how to. Can you help with this one?--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 11:51, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
Allmusic sources should use {{Allmusic}}- What is the difference? It is anyway properly formatted. I prefer not to work with these templates. :)--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 13:09, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
Non-print sources such as The Official Charts Company should not be italicised- I will continue with a prose review soon. Adabow (talk · contribs) 08:52, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Lead
[edit]Link should be to hip hop music"Lyrically, the song tells of a the shattered relationship from the female perspective, and how they incessantly return to the man even though he continuously cheat on them and breaks their heart." - err, what? Rewrite- I did, whats wrong with "Lyrically, the song tells of a relationship from the female perspective, and how they incessantly return to the man even though he continuously cheats on them and breaks their heart."--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 13:07, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- Who is the 'they' and 'them' and 'the man'? Adabow (talk · contribs) 04:28, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

"Across Europe and Australasia, the song achieved high charting, peaking atop the charts in Canada, New Zealand and Spain, and becoming a top five single in France and the United Kingdom." - Canada is in neither Europe nor Australasia"She performed "Heartbreaker" and its accompanying remix" - what remix?"The song's music video, directed by Brett Ratner, became a "fan favorite" according to MTV News." - this statement is quite a big one so it should probably be cited here
Background
[edit]"This was due to the fact that her husband at the time, Columbia Records CEO Tommy Mottola, was controlling of her career and the music she recorded" - not saying this is wrong, but is this really what you mean? It makes Mottola seem a lil...err..abusive?- Um, according to the book and Carey, he was lol. Thats why they divorced.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 08:37, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
"Carey's fifth studio album, Daydream (1995) was the first time that" - either no comma after album or a comma after both album and (1995)"Butterfly was her first real push into the R&B market" - so the others were unreal?
No contractions, please ("she'd")Adabow (talk · contribs) 05:42, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
In the blockquote, "Having them both definitely enhances the range and depth of the song" does not appear in the ref- "Her main focus on the album was to continue on the same path she began on Butterfly, only including a hip-hop star on the album's lead single.[5] This would be the fist time in Carey's career that another artist would be featured on one of Carey's lead singles" - this is a bit contradicting. It says it's like last time coz it has a hip hop star on the lead single, but it's the first time Carey had a collaboration on the lead single.
- The remix for "Fantasy" was never released as a lead single. The regular version was, while the remix was simply, a remix. This song was actually the real and finished version sent to radios, which in fact featured a hip-hop star.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 13:07, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- It still reads badly. You must remember that not all readers will know such details. Please rewrite it. Adabow (talk · contribs) 04:28, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- It now reads, "Her main focus on the album was to continue on the same path she began with on Butterfly, only including a hip-hop star on the album's lead single", which is incorrect. What does the source say, directly? Adabow (talk · contribs) 04:40, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

"Originally, "Heartbreaker" was intended to be part of Carey's debut film soundtrack Glitter, only being used on Rainbow after the films delay." - rewrite- No need to quote the MTV News interview twice
- I don't understand. Both are completely different and speaking of separate things.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 13:07, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- No they aren't. Look again: "It's pretty much [in] the classic style of my up-tempo classics like 'Fantasy' or 'Dream Lover,'. But it's kind of fun and has a new edge to it, I think, and definitely having Jay-Z takes it to a whole 'nother level. And Clue makes it really fun and stuff." and "It's pretty much [in] the classic style of my up-tempo classics like 'Fantasy' or 'Dreamlover,' [...] But it's kind of fun and has a new edge to it, I think, and definitely having Jay-Z takes it to a whole 'nother level. - I really think you should read over the article and copy-edit it, as at the moment it reads pretty poorly. Adabow (talk · contribs) 06:32, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
Recording and lyrics
[edit]""Heartbreaker" contained strong female-empowering lyrics" - contains
Composition
[edit]Link chord progressionRemove ""midtempo" and a" as it is already stated beforehandLink melismatic"For example, the beginning of a word may start in a mid-belt and descend into a whispered coo" is a bit too general. Is there a specific lyrical example? No need to describe melisma in general- "The song features a vocal style developed in the studio, where Carey, along with the other background singers, sing the main melody and chorus while she whispers, hums or mumbles over it." - rewrite
- "Hearbreaker" samples R&B—dance singer Stacy Lattisaw's "Attack of the Name Game"." - we alread know this. How is it sampled?/What part of it is sampled?
"It follows the verse-pre-chorus-chorus-hook-verse-pre-chorus-chorus and then giving way to the Jay-Z's rap" - major rewrite needed
Remixes
[edit]"who made an introduction on the remix" - makes- "It is the seventh track on the album" - is this needed? If so, name the album
"featuring a cameo appearance by Snoop Dogg" - appearance by Dogg
Critical reception
[edit]"and commented how Carey" - and commented on how Carey; and noted how Carey"another editor from Entertainment Weekly reviewed the song individually" - not needed. Just say who he is and where from
Chart performance
[edit]Remove image- "It extended Carey's lead as the female with the most number one singles in the country, and made Carey surpass Michael Jackson, who had thirteen, for more chart toppers." - rewrite
- "Additionally, "Heartbreaker" finished number thirty-five" - missing word
- Italicise Billboard (year-end)
"After spending eleven weeks inside the chart, the song was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ)." - you must be careful here. You do not know that the cert was issue after eleven charting weeks. Scapolo's book does not record actual certs, but uses figures provided by the label. Use [1] this to verify the cert"In total, "Heartbreaker" spent twelve weeks charting on the Austrian charts" → In total, "Heartbreaker" spent twelve weeks on the Austrian singles chart"In the two Belgium territories, Wallonia and Flanders, the song peaked at numbers nine and twenty-seven respectively, charting for a total of eighteen weeks." - 18 weeks in each? A combined total of 18? Look at the source - it's not 18- Fixed this one.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 11:51, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
"After charting for thirty-four weeks, "Heartbreaker" was certified gold by the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique (SNEP), denoting shipments of over 400,000 units." - the source does not say 34 weeks, and the cert was given before it fell out of the chart.- The Hung Medien Dutch chart is the Single Top 100, not the Dutch Top 40. Please check through any other articles you have worked on and make sure that this is corrected. However, for songs that do chart on the Dutch Top 40, use the Top 40 over Top 100 as the DT40 is more comprehensive. Here is the DT40 source: [2].
"After charting for a total of fourteen weeks, the song managed to attain a peak of number eighteen." - this implies that it reached #18 in its fifteenth week
Music video
[edit]Per MOS:CAPTION, captions that are full sentences should end with a full stop, those that don't (such as image here) should not end with a full stop.- "Additionally, the video was filmed in a comedic fashion, intended to remain something "fun and exciting."" - according to who? Source?
"Prior to filming the video...Prior to filming the video..." - repetitive. Are they even needed?
Live performances
[edit]"Additionally, the song was performed on The Oprah Winfrey Show, which again featured the female duo live on stage, British music chart program Top of the Pops, where she was presented by Christina Aguilera, French program Vivement Dimanche, and The Today Show, both of which were live versions of the original" - long and confusing
Other comments
[edit]- Passing by comment – How are those two live performance image in any way related to the song? We are not supposed to add images just for blind decoration, albeit free ones. — Legolas (talk2me) 07:25, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- I agree, as per my second comment. Irrelevant images are somewhat distracting from the article. Adabow (talk · contribs) 07:38, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, I don't really copy-edit them (I should) before nominating them. I'll give it a thorough re-write. As per the photos, I was not aware there was an issue with it. They are free images, and yes, they are there for eye candy. I'll remove them if required.-CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 07:46, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- Alright. I gave it a c/e, take a look now. Also, I incorporated the already listed fixes. Additionally, Mags already added an appropriate photo for the live performances section.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 08:36, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- The music video image should be aligned left, per MOS for Images.. Subject should look towards the article, not away from it. And I don't see the need for the sub-sections in the music video section. They are quite small and works fine as a two para section. — Legolas (talk2me) 14:32, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- Done.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 14:44, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
The succession boxes should be placed at the end of the article, before Carey's single navbox- It is before Carey's single navbox.--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 13:07, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- I mean after works cited. Adabow (talk · contribs) 04:12, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- I don't understand this one either. Can you help?--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 11:51, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

- I think thats the last of them Ada :) Can you help with those two? Thanks!--CallMeNathan • Talk2Me 11:51, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- OK, we're nearly there. The thing about hip hop stars on lead singles needs clearing up, and you really should use the Dutch Top 40 with songs that appear on it. Adabow (talk · contribs) 04:40, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
