$127 million

[edit]

The claim that this song raised $127M for Katrina Charities (specifically Habitat for Humanity) appears to be made only by Tim Blixseth as part of his personal brand marketing efforts and is otherwise unsubstantiated. Habitat for Humanity did not report any such donation and reported in 2009 that the largest gift they ever received was $100M by Ronald Twerliger [3]. According to Billboard, sales for Heart of America did not reach any level close to the $127,000,000 let alone generate profits sufficient to make such a donation.

The total sales of the album, on which Blixseth's Heart of America was one of 23 singles, [1] also did not reach $127M in sales and never even hit a Billboard top 200 chart for sales [2].

This claim appears to be a total fabrication by Tim Blixseth.

Regarding the $127 milllion. This is an encyclopedia based on reliable secondary sources. Our opinions, such as the one expressed above are not the basis for content on this encyclopedia. The first source cited in the comment above, makes no mention of the subject of this article.[4] The second source simply states that the song never charted and gives no information about the amount of funds generated by the song. [5] and according to WP's policy of no original research WP:OR we don't draw our own conclusions and make assumptions based on bits of information. We do however have a reliable source, a newspaper called The Desert Sun and the headline reads: Blixseth's tune raises $127 million for ongoing hurricane relief efforts. There is nothing in the article that says that this was a claim by Blixseth. --KeithbobTalk 21:12, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
