History of medicine
[edit]I'm just wondering if we ought not to have a section on the country's astonishing contributions to the development of medicine, particularly in the 18th and 19th centuries. Or does this deserve its own article? Medicine in Scotland? --Mais oui! (talk) 20:00, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
VHI
[edit]The 8.5% figure (of the Scottish population who buy VHI) seems pretty well documented.
HM Treasury (2014), “Statistical Estimates for the Allocation of Identifiable Expenditure Between the UK Countries and 9 English Regions”, https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/country-and-regional-analysis-2014
That link is dead but it is referenced on page 5 of OECD (2016), "Health care quality in Scotland", in OECD Reviews of Health Care Quality: United Kingdom 2016: Raising Standards, OECD Publishing, Paris. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.1787/9789264239487-6-en
The 8.5% figure is also mentioned several times here: http://www.euro.who.int/__data/assets/pdf_file/0008/177137/E96722-v2.pdf

- @Bertrandwilden: As I pointed out to you before, you are making assumptions that are not correct. I pointed out that while the OECD 2016 review mentions the figure, it doesn't provide any referencing of it. The OECD document uses the HM Treasury/ ONS document to reference a different figure- the ONS document is a statistical analysis of public expenditure (and it is not a broken link). I added the European PHO document to the article and I added a template to indicate it is page 53 of that document where the 8.5% figure is referenced. The reference is for a "Laing's healthcare market review 2010 – 2011" by Laing and Buisson. Neither the PHO nor OECD present the 8.5% as representing the number of people who buy VHI, but as those who have it. I corrected you on this earlier, some people have it as an employee benefit and indeed in some cases it may be compulsory. Drchriswilliams (talk) 07:00, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Drchriswilliams: Oh ok I see how I was getting mixed up with the citations now. Thank you for your help! Bertrandwilden (talk) 08:10, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
