Names
[edit]The proper title of the British ambassador in Yangon is Her Britannic Majesty's Ambassador to the Union of Burma, abbreviated to 'Ambassador to Burma'. Whatever the domestic government calls itself, the position of 'Ambassador to Myanmar' does not exist within the Diplomatic Service. Hence the reasoning behind it being under 'Burma', not 'Myanmar'.
Although the issue has not been brought up, a similar situation exists with the Republic of Ireland; credentials are addressed to the President of the Republic of Ireland in person. Thus, at the moment, Stewart Eldon is Her Britannic Majesty's Ambassador to Mary McAleese. Hence, it is listed under 'Republic of Ireland', the long form of the country's name, rather than the constitutionally-mandated 'Ireland'. Bastin 21:43, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Flags
[edit]This page should be updated with flags to make it look more professional. Ijanderson977 (talk) 13:26, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- That took me ages to do all the flags Haha, however it does look a lot better now and looks more professional. Ijanderson977 (talk) 15:08, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Out of date
[edit]This page is really out of date. Either it needs updating or deleting. As it currently stands it is of no use to anyone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.108.171.254 (talk) 17:08, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
- This is a useful page, but it needs to be regularly maintained. Peterkingiron (talk) 13:17, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Paraguay
[edit]This seems to be an item missing from the list. There is also no list of ambassadors for it. Peterkingiron (talk) 13:17, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
- Paraguay is in the list (I did check to see whether it was a recent addition but it isn't) under the heading Non-resident Heads of Mission. MLA (talk) 21:52, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
Transclusion to keep up-to-date
[edit]As remarked above, this article gets out-of-date because it often doesn't get updated at the same time as the "List of Ambassadors of the United Kingdom to (country)" pages. So I propose to add code as described in Template:Onlyinclude to transclude the current ambassador's name from each country page to this article, so that when a country page is updated, the new name will appear here automatically. I've only done Afghanistan and Albania so far. Comments? Stanning (talk) 18:55, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
update the page?
[edit]I am currently HM Ambassador to Uruguay and appear as such on the "UK Ambassador to Uruguay" wikipage. But this list still shows my predecessor. The same is true for a number of other ambassadors (eg Paraguay). Please could you correct this? thank you
Two amendments suggested - and apologies
[edit]I noticed that this page is mainly autogenerated - but saw there are still 2 errors: the current HC to Malawi is Fiona Ritchie - appointed 2022 ( https://www.gov.uk/government/news/change-of-british-high-commissioner-to-malawi-fiona-ritchie ) so went to change the page "list of HC to Malawi". I followed the instructions, but think there might be other errors on that page, as it still says David Beer in the call out box under "current incumbent" - and the date under his name is also wrong - in that he was appointed in 2020, and it says 2017. It also didn't link to the page I expected to see as a ref - eg the GOV.UK page listing her appointment - but instead to her current/bio page. Grateful if someone more up to speed with the coding on wikipedia can sort that out (and apologies for trying to help. The other error relates to Myanmar: the list on this page still has Pete Vowles as Ambassador. This is out of date - he is now in Zimbabwe (and the list has this). The UK doesn't have an Ambassador in Myanmar currently - but Ken O'Flaherty is the charge d'affaires - as evidenced on his bio page https://www.gov.uk/government/people/ken-oflaherty After my failure on the Malawi page, I hope someone else can fix the Myanmar page!
