Kind of a one-hit wonder in the U.S. -- doubt if many people remember anything other than "Shiny Shiny"... AnonMoos (talk) 20:48, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wonder why it says they are best known for "John Wayne Is Big Leggy" when "Shiny Shiny" was by far the bigger hit in the U.S. AnonMoos (talk) 19:47, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I only remember Shiny Shiny, so you're right there. Perhaps the person that wrote the part about John Wayne Is Big Leggy was from the UK or something. 64.40.54.109 (talk) 03:41, 10 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
They were a UK band, and JWIBL was much better known here. Pollythewasp (talk) 14:49, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Catapulted to stardom by their visual sensibilities

[edit]

This sounds like some editor who aspires to pop journalism, with all the hyperbole and nonsequiturs that go with that. It's not encyclopaedic.

  1. Hayzee Fantayzee were never "stars"; they had a couple of hits, then disappeared. Most people had no idea what the artists' names were.
  2. You can't be "catapulted" somewhere by your own "visual sensibilities".

I suppose the claim is that they were musical nonentities, that achieved limited success on the back of their fashion taste. If that's what it means, that's what it should say. Wikipedia isn't a pop magazine. MrDemeanour (talk) 20:26, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's certainly prose which is more purple than Wikipedia accepts. I don't know much about Hayzee Fantayzee, but some felt that Missing Persons (band) owed part of their career to Dale Bozzio's shiny metal bikinis and pastel hair (much less common then)...
