Infobox

[edit]

I have tried to insert an infobox, but there is simply not enough of the pertinent information to add. He is an interesting and important figure, and much is to be said about his legend and his supposed influence upon certain Japanese arts... but his date and place of birth and death are not known, neither are his spouse or children; his education is not really applicable considering the time period and such. So pretty much all I have is his nationality (Japanese, possibly ethnic Chinese) and his occupation (courtier). Is this really worth making into an infobox? Looking for the source

[edit]

"Prince Shōtoku is said to have prayed to the spirit of Kawakatsu for victory against Mononobe no Moriya, who led an armed force in opposition to Japanese adoption of Buddhism."

After reading this, I went to look at the Nihon Shoki to see if I was able to find that information there, since most of the primary sources reporting to Prince Shotoku's actions are from there. However, while I was able to find the part where he prays to the Four Heavenly Kings to aid him in battle against the Mononobe (Book XXI, Sujun Tenno, I read the translation on wikisource), it is never mentionned that it is the spirit of Kawakatsu in particular.

Does this information come from somewhere else? I don't doubt its veracity, I'm really not an expert on Japanese classical history, but I'd like to know where it comes from so I can look at the original text myself. If anyone knows, please answer this! Thanks in advance! Azulia888 (talk) 17:25, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
