Defining 'hassock'

I understand the redirect to 'tuffet'; what I don't understand is whether there is an alternate meaning for the word. For instance, just south of the main body of Queens, NY near JFK Airport are land masses that in Google Earth are referred as 'hassocks' (look like 'islands' to me but hey, what do I know...I'm no sophisticate). Was someone in New York City's history thinking that these islands looked like footrests? Or is there really another definition for the word? Monoblocks (talk) 23:32, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
