$

[edit]

Both the USD and Brunei ringgit have $ as their symbol. He is the Sultan of Brunei, many references are American or British. Shouldn't we disambig these instances of $ in the article? --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 12:03, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, but I we should use USD when possible. 78.146.137.190 (talk) 23:24, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

titles of former wives

[edit]

why does Pengiran Isteri Mariam still have her "HRH" in this article, when Pengiran Isteri Azrinaz Mazhar has lost hers? 141.243.9.139 (talk) 07:07, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I heard one of his wives was a member of the royal family I..e his cousin. Perhaps it was her. 78.146.137.190 (talk) 23:25, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

134 Koenigsegg's

[edit]

The company built 18 cars in 2008 (Koenigsegg wikipedia article / BBC). The first model released 1998 now 2010. 12 years times 18 (probably even less because the first years they didn't produce as fast as nowadays) is 216. So the Sultan bought 62% (or more if the total amount of Koenigsegg's produced is lower) of all available Koenigsegg? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.171.77.250 (talk) 21:55, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Correct. Also as Wikipedia itself says here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Automobiles/Archive_18 there's no such thing as a "C i c e r o B D B M a e s t r o" it was a deliberate hoax article. Plus there is no "Agera CC GT" it's just plain "Agera". Hrundi — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hrundimailgr (talkcontribs) 20:53, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Controversies and Dictatorship" Bias?

[edit]

The section entitled "Controversies and Dictatorship" seems to have a rather strong element of bias. Additionally, I believe that if this section is to continue to exist, it should be completely rewritten. I can work on it, but not for about a month. This page seems to be of rather low importance, so I feel no rush. If anyone else wants to work on this, let me know. 24.42.166.186 (talk) 02:05, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Hassanal Bolkiah

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Hassanal Bolkiah's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "independent1":

  • From Jefri Bolkiah: Usborne, David (February 9, 2006). "The Brunei royal family: The Sultan, his brother and an £8 billion family feud". The Independent. Retrieved October 10, 2010.
  • From Barack Obama: Johnson, Wesley (November 5, 2008). "Change has come, says President-elect Obama". The Independent (UK). Retrieved November 5, 2008.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 19:10, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Amadeo or Amedeo?

[edit]

The headline of the sections uses the "AMEDEO" spelling, however the section text talks about "Amadeo" - which one is right? 87.167.239.160 (talk) 20:45, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I can only find the "Amadeo" spelling. Where is the variant spelling used? 78.146.137.190 (talk) 23:27, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Strong bias in the religious affairs section

[edit]

Sultan of Brunei to introduce new laws seeing adulterers stoned to death and criminals' hands amputated in bid to increase Islamic influence

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2471776/Sultan-Brunei-introduce-new-sharia-laws.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.130.168.139 (talk) 03:34, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to this it seems that a particular contributor has been biasing the page in favor of the Sultan. Many references to the harsh criminal code are downplayed. The ban on Christmas and practice of stoning are 'justified' and harsh penalties for \"failure to attend Friday prayers, indecent behavior and pregnancies outside of marriage\" are omitted.

2019 controversy - needs a better subheading

[edit]

Having a bit of a brain freeze, someone think of something a little more succinct and accurate to use as a subheading? Currently set as 'Constitutional changes towards adultery and homosexuality'. --—Cyclonenim | Chat  13:02, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Should Bolkiah's infobox template be changed to the royalty one?

[edit]

He's currently the Sultan of Brunei, and one of the last absolute monarchs in the world, so wouldn't it make sense to use the royalty template instead of the officeholder one? Josharaujo1115 (talk) 01:54, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I agree with that, Hassanal Bolkiah infobox should be a royalty Mhatopzz (talk) 22:28, 11 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Issue?

[edit]

What does the subheader "Issue" mean? Is this correct/grammatical? It seems to be a list of heirs and/or children and grandchildren. —mako 18:40, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Benjamin Mako Hill: Of course it is. --95.24.79.236 (talk) 22:35, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Surname, personal name, name of house

[edit]

The header says that a Malay name doesn't have a surname, and that personal name is Hassanal Bolkiah. However, the Brunei royals do have a surname - it is Bolkiah. The article infobox states that he belongs to the House of Bolkiah. Moreover, personal name is Hassan, not Hassanal, as "al-" is a surname prefix in Arabic. I don't really know why they add it to the personal name, and only in his case, not his brothers. --95.24.79.236 (talk) 22:38, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
