Mama-san and papa-san

[edit]

I do remember the cartoon. The children would refer to their parents as "mama-san" and papa-san". But I couldn't remember if the over-all impression was racist or not. Rphunt 03:55, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking about adding a little more history?

[edit]

I was thinking about adding how hashimoto san was different compared to the other cartoons from terry toons and including a little more info about the cartoon in general.--Lilbballgirly11 (talk) 21:29, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"First positive characterization"

[edit]

This line was added to the article in 2005 by an unregistered editor:

"Since it was common to portray Japanese and other Asians as houseboys or manservants (or worse) in American cartoons prior to the Hashimoto series, Hashimoto the Mouse is today regarded as having perhaps been the first positive characterization of an Asian character in American animation."

I removed the line from the article because it's unsourced. This may be true, but we need a citation to a published source. I'm parking it here on the talk page, in the hope that someone will find a published source for it. I didn't put a "citation needed" tag on the article because in my view those tags don't work, and you're just leaving potentially incorrect material on the page. — Toughpigs (talk) 22:11, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
