Songs

[edit]

Does the article need to carry such a long list of song titles? The highlights plus a link to the Songwriters Hall of Fame and elsewhere is surely sufficient. Guy 18:21, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the lists are long, but I'd think all the Academy Award nominated songs and #1 hits need to be listed, along with other really famous standards. We'll try to cut it down a bit, though. -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:50, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I completely agree with Guy that the section "Other selected songs from films" is not only unnecessary but promotes personal preference and opinion; which is something not allowed on Wikipedia. This has already been clearly shown with the edits by Ssilvers by streamlining what he/she thought was appropriate to the list. Since this line of editing is contributing by individual selection and cannot be referenced or cited for inclusion: the section itself should not be included. Ssilvers removed what some may deem to be very important Warren standards and yet included tunes that many musicologists would consider substandard. It is a shame, because Warren is, in my eyes, a genius that should have such a list, but other "Great American Songbook" songwriters do not have such lists on Wikipedia for just this reason: who is the one to decide? Perhaps it would serve the Article better if it followed the other songwriter formats to list their Films or Broadway Shows with "Notable Songs" from that show. I personally feel that this section is causing more trouble than it's worth and welcomes first time contributors to edit their own "favorite warren tunes"; and thus will pose the never-ending question: Yes, he wrote it, but why is it important? Maineartists (talk) 5:00, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
OK, I've culled the "other" songs sections by keeping only the blue-linked ones which are, by definition, notable. That is an objective criterion. In the future, if someone writes an article about a Warren song, it can be added. -- Ssilvers (talk) 22:48, 1 December 2014 (UTC
Brilliant! Thanks, Ssilvers An excellent solution. Maineartists (talk) 8:35, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
If you know a lot about Warren's songs, can you identify any that really ought to have their own articles? If you can find any good sources that say that the songs are of particular interest, importance or popularity, I would be happy to help you write an article about them. -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:39, 2 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

appearance on Lawrence Welk Show

[edit]

There was a 1970s Lawrence Welk Show devoted entirely to his songs. Warren was in the audience, and at the end of the show Welk introduced Warren to the audience, and Warren got up and acknowledged the applause and then danced with Cissy King during the "Goodnight, Sleep Tight" closing song. It was just on TV on the PBS syndicated broadcasts tonight. Anyone want to look it all up and include it in this article? -- 68.71.8.103 (talk) 00:00, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. At least three episodes:
  • Season 18, Episode 5, October 7, 1972
  • Season 25, Episode 10, November 24, 1979
  • Season 27, Episode 17, January 2, 1982

Scott Joplin LP

[edit]

There was a Scott Joplin piano album released on the "Gold Award" series in the UK (Marlborough label?) featuring Harry "Fingers" Warren on a genuine honky tonk pub upright piano with small backing group in the Joplin staples "The Entertainer", "Maple Leaf Rag" etc plus a few popular songs in Joplin style. I'd be fascinated to know anybody's thoughts on this if they've come across it. The playing is scintillatong - real infectious get up and dance stuff! Probably the best syncopated playing I've ever heard. 2A02:C7C:E0AC:3200:68F7:4B85:3DE2:EDE4 (talk) 20:10, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
