Talk:Harringay Stadium
Original Name
[edit]As far as I'm aware and according to Mike Ticher's "Story of Harringay Stadium and Arena", the two venues were only ever known by their common names. Would welcome a citation to show otherwise. Is it possible that the author of this comment is taking a lead from the station which served the venues? When it opened in 1880, Harringay Green Lanes railway station was originally named Harringay Park, Green Lanes. In June 1951 the station was renamed Harringay Park. It was renamed again in October 1958 to Harringay Stadium. In May 1990 the name of the station was again changed to reflect the closure of the stadium; the name chosen this time was Harringay East. The station got its present name a year later in May 1991. But the "park" in the name was after a large house & grounds which occupied a large part of the area. As far as I'm aware it was never associated with either venue.hjuk 23:30, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm reasonably sure that "Harringay Park" was occasionally used as a reference on publicity material for the Arena/Stadium site... not for the stock car racing or circus's which were mentioned as at the Stadium & Arena respectively. But there were other events outside (1950s equivalents of Fleamarkets) and I think the term Harringay Park was then used. --IsarSteve 23:44, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
Well there's some local knowledge talking - which given it's you, sir, I'm inclined to accept as new knowledege. But I'm the tiniest bit frustrated because I can't find anything else on it - a couple of ragged sites on a Google search. Any clues to follow-up? hjuk 07:12, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
speedwayresearcher.org.uk
[edit]Ale jrb please look again at the link you've removed and are proposing fro blacklisting. It's an amateur website with stacks of useful info. I have zero link with it, but am the principal author of the article and I think the links adds significant value. hjuk (talk) 22:09, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
- Discussion about blacklisting here - you are welcome to take part. I'm currently tempted to leave this one be, in which case it can be restored to the article, but no final decision yet. Ale_Jrbtalk 23:29, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
I can't see any update at the link you provide so I'm adding the rather useful speewayresearcher site back. hjuk (talk) 20:14, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Same issue as speedwayresearcher.org.uk/. I don't get what the issue is with either site. Both are non-commercial sites that someone has worked hard to build up. They have lots of useful pics / info on and so should stay. hjuk (talk) 20:17, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
