Renaming article (for disambiguation)
[edit]Disambiguation required due to Greig Pickhaver pseudonym. I assume that 'Australian politics' will be the applicable qualifier, though there's probably an argument to be made for 'Australian history'. (Any helpful feedback will be gratefully appreciated.) --Tyranny Sue (talk) 03:55, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
- The dab page is H. G. Nelson. Greg Pickhaver only calls himself "HG" never "Harold George", so this page ought to stay where it is. Digestible (talk) 11:29, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. I do know GP never calls himself "Harold George" but unfortunately the disambiguation issue remains. Any suggestions please on how I go about disambiguating the two, so that links to Greig Pickhaver's H. G. Nelson go directly to the Greig Pickhaver page (since his HG Nelson doesn't have a separate page) and not to the dab page? Or does it require a separate new page for HG Nelson (which may not really be warranted)? Or should I rename the Greig Pickhaver page something like "Greig Pickhaver (HG Nelson)" (assuming that's possible & acceptable)? (It all seems very tricky to me, but then I'm new to disambiguation. All I know about this kind of thing is what I've learned from the Sam Simmons disambiguation situation.)--Tyranny Sue (talk) 22:24, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
- I would suggest using piping. i.e. [[Greig Pickhaver|HG Nelson]] displays as HG Nelson. Digestible (talk) 22:31, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
- Fantastic! Thank you! (I'm still new to all this coding stuff.)--Tyranny Sue (talk) 22:42, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

While we're on the topic though, I'm not thrilled about the article not using his common name. If he most commonly went by H. G. Nelson, the article should be there; with a disambiguation header at the top for anyone who wants Pickhaver? It removes the issue here, and doesn't change that you still need an extra click to get to the Pickhaver article. Rebecca (talk) 14:07, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
