Knighthood
[edit]As Evans is now an American citizen, the title will be honorific and he will not be entitled to call himself 'Sir', though the press seem to be using it for some reason. I propose to remove 'Sir' from the beginning of the article. A.P. Cross (talk) 10:49, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- A very late response, I know, but no. He is still a British subject and still perfectly entitled to use his knighthood. The United States may be arrogant enough to demand sole citizenship, but other countries are not required to respect these ludicrous claims and do not do so. As far as Britain is concerned he is still British unless he formally renounces his citizenship. -- Necrothesp (talk) 08:50, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
Potential Edit War
[edit]I removed an BLP violating edit by an editor who has already been warned for WP:Edit Warring, and whose disruptive editing has caused Bend Not Break to be semi-protected. My edit was reverted by an IP, which I subsequently reverted. I fully expect this to turn into an Edit War. I will request that other Wikipedians watchlist this page. VanHarrisArt (talk) 03:42, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
Why is VanHarrisArt so fond of claiming others' editing invalid? Are Wikipedia rules set by VanHarrisArt alone?? I would like to call for mediators to intervene. DevanYaris (talk) 05:19, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
I restored my edit that was removed by Van Harris. He is a biased partisan in the whole controversy and has threatened others who disagreed with him. All of my contribution is properly sourced, and most of it is based on an article written by Harold Evans himself. If Harris disagrees with my description, he can try to edit it instead of removing it completely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.147.72.122 (talk) 13:26, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
hi, i originally noticed and removed the edit. i'm not affiliated with anyone in this discussion, it just looked silly and was obviously inappropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.231.147.103 (talk) 19:26, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
Just reverted another IP reversion. This is the fourth roundtrip (posting/removing) cycle for the same stuff in 4 days. Since this article seems to be becoming an attractive nuisance for WP:SPAs and WP:IPs, possibly it's time to semi-protect it? VanHarrisArt (talk) 20:22, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
Place of Birth?
[edit]Patricroft or Newton Heath? The former is in Eccles, which was then in Lancashire, and the latter was and is in Manchester. I've seen reports that he was "raised in Eccles." Any clarification? Hengistmate (talk) 12:03, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
Missing info?
[edit]I suspect some text has gone missing. We jump from him just starting at the Northern Echo to a detailed but non sequitor-ish bit of commentary about thalidomide & the Sunday Times. I can't easily check the edit history on mobile. I have some letters & a copy of a cheque sent to me by him in 1979 on Sunday Times notepaper, so he moved then or earlier.
BTW, he had a reputation for being quick to issue writs and for easily taking offence, eg regarding Private Eye. - Sitush (talk) 21:57, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
Reuters archive
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a partial block from editing this page has now been answered. |

Here is a news archive of Sir Harold Evans that should be added to this site. MikaelaArsenault (talk) 08:49, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- Not sure that another news archive is needed, given that there are already a plethora but...sure, why not? Done. No guarantees that it will stick, though. Altamel (talk) 02:13, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
Links to obituaries
[edit]For use soon or later, obituaries: BBC; Financial Times. JDAWiseman (talk) 22:40, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- I check both links. I could view the BBC link but when I clicked on the Financial Times link, it required a paid subscription and I could view no content. Jurisdicta (talk) 20:21, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
