"Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky heard this song during his stay in the USA in 1925. He referred to it in his essay, "How To Make Poetry": "There is a tune oа some American song I like; it still requires modification in order to sound Russian".[1] "
The assertion seems spurious and is made by an anonymous editor. If it is correct, it needs further verifiable substantiation than one reference to a source written in Russian. --Contributingfactor (talk) 23:58, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
