Proposed merge of Harbin Russians into Ethnic Russians in China
[edit]I see a great deal of potential overlap between these two articles as Ethnic Russians in China develops. Many Russians migrating into other regions of China (notably Xinjiang, where most ethnic Russians live today) shared similar motivations as the Russians going to Harbin; they also suffered similar persecutions by Soviet agents, and in the end, many of them left China for similar reasons as the Harbin Russians. So a lot of things that could be said about Harbin Russians actually apply to all Russian migration to China. Conversely, the amount of material that's specific to Harbin Russians and inapplicable to Russians elsewhere in China (China Eastern Railway, the Japanese occupation) might not be enough to make a full article, which is why I suggest merging this article to Ethnic Russians in China. - I don't support the merge. Harbin Russians is a static article, while Ethnic Russians in China is a dynamic one, similar to Kaifeng Jews and History of the Jews in China. The problem stems from the rather inadequate definition: "They are the descendants of Russians who settled in China, and hold Chinese rather than Russian citizenship". There were ethnic Russians in China before the Harbin Russians (early contact with the Qing Dynasty, and possibly even earlier), probably a mix of traders and explorers. There are also ethnic Russians in China who went there for non-settlement purposes during the time of the Harbin Russians, i.e. Marxist/technical/military staff. Even if there were multiple settlements of different groups of Russians in China during that period with a similar background, each of those groups still has a specific history that is distinct. Finally, there is still history to be made.--Confuzion 23:55, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with Confuzion. Russians in Harbin are often onl refers to those who migrated after 1918 revolution. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.126.75.181 (talk) 03:04, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Japanese rule
[edit]The article says they had a difficult time during the Japanese occupation. In which way? How was their status? Were they discriminated? --85.226.47.128 (talk) 17:09, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
References
[edit]This article about a very interesting topic contains only ONE reference. It clearly needs more to remain unchallenged. --BsBsBs (talk) 17:40, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

There were a total of 53 different nationalities. If ethnic Russians only, so the other page about other ethnicities is needed. Xx236 (talk) 06:08, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
