There seems to be some doubt as to the relevance of the sources. While I agree that blogs in themselves aren't great references when it comes to making any kind of accademic claim, when attempting to demonstrate the nebulous quality of underground popularity then the tone and persistance of such sites prove much more effective.Malikbek (talk) 21:53, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- I've got a copy which I bought in 1990. I'm not sure I share the basic approach of the article that it was supposed to be about Madchester. Yes, it includes some Madchester bands, but not all of them are, and the note on the back of the CD from Gary Crowley says "This album was compiled to reflect the events/music of 1990" and doesn't refer to Manchester at all. The notes on tracks in the inlay mention the home towns of several non-Manchester bands. Sam Blacketer (talk) 22:30, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
- Agreed, I had it at the time and never thought it was a particularly Manchester/Madchester album. Talltim (talk) 14:27, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
- Agreed again. What have Pixies and Carter USM got to do with the Madchester scene? The Crowley quote is really helpful in that it points out that the album is about the music of the year. While that scene was certainly very prevalent in the charts at the time (and therefore reflected in the quantity of Manchester bands on the album), it's not actually the focus of the album. Incidentally, it's not mentioned in the article but there was also a VHS version of this album featuring all of the associated videos. I know that because I had that and not the actual album. The track listing appears identical from my recollection. danno_uk 22:47, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
