name came from aana ?

[edit]

I am belgian myself (native dutch speaker) and Hans is very a common name in duch. Hansken translates as "little Hans".

Thanks. My source (the German wikipedia) says is comes from "ana" (as does the name of Hanno the elephant). Isn't Hans a male name? Wouldn't it be a bit odd to name a female elephant "little Hans"? -- ALoan (Talk) 10:05, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Offcourse it's odd, but I don't know anything about this elephant only that "Hansken" is in dutch "little Hans".
On the Dutch engraving, Hansken is refered as hy (he). Kneiphof 19:54, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In Some Dutch villages around the former Zuiderzee(like Marken and Spakenburg)it was common to name females with a male name belittled , like Jantje or Pietje. Maybe the same thing happened to Hansken after someone realized Hans was actually a female.212.123.129.252 (talk) 15:45, 2 August 2009 (UTC)Viridiflavus (talk) 15:46, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
