Accuracy
[edit]Article currently reads Hand percussion is a term used to indicate a percussion instrument of any type from any culture that is held in the hand. They can be made from wood, metal or plastic and are usually either shaken, scraped or tapped with fingers or a stick (my emphasis). That may be a definition in an orchestra, but another common definition would be that it's played by hand.
A hand cymbal mounted on a stand and played with the hands would not, by the current definition, be hand percussion. Nor would any drum played with both hands, such as bongo drums or congas. On the other hand, a wood block would be hand percussion in most orchestras, but not in a drum kit.
Difficult. I can see merit in both definitions, and justification for both in terms of WP:AT. Andrewa (talk) 19:13, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
