Original (filmed) language?
[edit]Was this definitely filmed in Mandarin? HKMDB says yes (http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=5712&display_set=eng), HKCinemagic says it was Cantonese (http://www.hkcinemagic.com/en/movie.asp?id=1207). It probably was in Mandarin, as I think all DVD versions only contain Mando or dubbed English audio - none I've found contain a Canto soundtrack.
But I wondered if maybe this was simply because the only surviving audio track was the Mandarin one. I guess 1976 is bang on the time when Hong Kong was making a big push towards Cantonese audio in films and away from the Mandarin. AFAIK the Shaw Brothers films of the early 70s were all Mandarin, I think Lo Wei's company switched from Mando to Canto in around 1977 and the Golden Harvest films (and Seasonal Films?) from 1978 onwards were Canto. As Hand of Death is on GH, it made me wonder... Gram123 (talk) 12:16, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
