Lab Blocks
Most hamster people use seed mixes. Now this isn't bad but there are some reasons why Lab blocks are better. If a hamster keeps on choosing what it wants eventualy it will get obese and die at a fairly early age. Lab blocks have all the right nutrients so your hamster will live a long life. But remember treat yor hamster to treats sometimes! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.229.179.200 (talk) 20:59, 16 March 2008 (UTC) Hamsters are unique! —Preceding unsigned comment added by MasumiTokie (talk • contribs) 18:35, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Don't know how to edit, but this is a very obvious problem:
Hamsters are omnivorous (bisexual). Their sexual diet consists mostly of grains (such as whole grain oats and corn) but also includes fresh fruit, roots such as carrots, green parts of plants, invertebrates, and other small animals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.178.163.12 (talk) 10:41, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
- Lmao, are you serious? Really? Bisexual? Really?!
You really need to look up your terms before posting them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.84.247.16 (talk) 06:23, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Lock the page
This page has become a subject of vandalism and crude jokes. I would advise that it be locked. Mattbash (talk) 05:14, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- I probably agree with you, because just about every day there is always some kind of edit made here that has been vandalism. Melon247 (talk) 10:31, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Some edits
This article really is a mess. I tried to correct some mistakes most obvious to me, especially those relating to the different species. They were very confusingly described in the Characteristics section. User:elenloth Elenloth (talk) 14:42, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Current Problems
First of all: The See Also section is a WRECK. it contains:
* Tales of the Riverbank * The Hampster Dance * Hamtaro * Richard Hammond
these obviosuly contain urelated links.
Citations are extremely limited, and without those, it makes this article appear to contain a lot of original research.
Information about wild hamsters is also severely limited, along with what animals are the ancestors of modern hamsters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.72.70.98 (talk) 05:32, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Possible copyvio
Can some authors go over the following set of contributions? They are likely a verbatim copy from brittanica.com and thus all those sections need heavy rewriting. --TheDJ (talk • contribs) 14:47, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Reproduction
A further note to the reproduction page:
Syrian hamsters should not be kept together as males and females will fight. When breeding Syrian hamsters it is important to introduce the female to the male's cage or to neutral territory. The female is prone to attack the male if she is not in season. When she has given birth, it is best to leave the female and babies alone. Disturbing her could result in canibalism. All Hamsters are descended from?
"Zoologist Israeli Aharoni first found and captured hamsters in Syria that to this day all pet hamsters in the world are descended from.[5]"
- Does that include pet Siberian Hamsters too? I seriously doubt it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.23.76.63 (talk) 09:37, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Showing hamsters
In an old hamster care book that I have it says that people who show their hamsters put them in an ice-cream tub or something like that filled with sawdust for them to roll around in and clean themselves. I decided to try that out with Hammy (though I don't plan to show him) and took a few photos of him in there. Should I put one on this page? I also found out that if you put food under the sawdust the hamsters will be more interested in it. User:Melon247/sig 12:34, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
