Palestine to Israel

[edit]

"In particular, the position of Hakham Bashi of Palestine was the precursor of that of Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Israel." It isn't easy to see how this is a clear report of the given source or why that source is reliable. Actually I believe it is not true. The Rabbinical Assembly of February 24th 1921 elected Yaacov Meir and Avraham Kook as Chief Rabbis in accordance with the rules laid down by the mandatory government. The public notice of their appointment included this statement: "The appointment of Haham Bashi no longer exists in Palestine; and no person is recognized by the Government as a Chief-Rabbi of Palestine except the Rabbis elected by the Assembly." (Official Gazette of the Government of Palestine, Number 40, April 1, 1921, page 10). This clearly states that the position of Hakham Bashi did not continue in the person of Sephardic Chief Rabbi but instead terminated in 1921. Zerotalk 05:53, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
