Wagnerian mythology
[edit]Wow, whoever wrote the "Wagnerian mythology" section is VERY confused!
1. Hagen is not "Siegfried's step-cousin". That would be true if Hagen had been fathered by Wotan (Siegfried's grandfather) but Hagen's father is Alberich, not Wotan.
2. The article currently says that Hagen "... convinces Gunther and Brünnhilde that by marrying Gutrune, Siegfried has committed an act of perjury that justifies his murder, allowing Hagen to claim the ring." That's wrong too! Hagen actually convinces Gunther and his follwers that Siegfried committed perjury by swearing (by Hagen's spear) that he (Siegfried) had never been Brünhilde's lover (which would have disgraced Gunther), not by marrying Gutrune. And he convinces Brünnhilde that Siegfried has abandoned her for Gutrune and given her (Brünhilde) to Gunther to be his unwilling wife.
I'm fixing it. HandsomeMrToad (talk) 03:08, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
