This articles contains some inaccuracies with regard to the scuttling of the the U-1406 and U-1407. Although the scuttling of the U-1405 was done by its crew the U-1406 and 1407 were not. They were surrendered lawfully by their crews. It was Oberleutnant Gerhard Grumpelt, who was not a crew member of either boat, who scuttled them.
This is discussed here. http://uboat.net/articles/80.html
A report about Grumpelt’s Court Martial can be found in "Law Reports of Trials of War Criminals, Vol, 1, English Edition", HMSO, 1947.
