Milf?

[edit]

"Built at Scott's of milf and running 422 tonnes, " Is milf something you can build a ship from? Or is this vandalism? The link certainly is either vandalism or a mistake; it goes to the Wiki page that defines the usual current meaning of milf, which has nothing to do with building a ship. I can't find any other meaning of milf, except that it's some sort of political organization in the Philipines, which also has nothing to do with ship building. 71.86.122.57 (talk) 10:54, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was vandalism that has since been reverted. Thank you for reading the article closely. —Arsonal (talk + contribs)20:43, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"Milf" has a derogatory sexual connotation - you'll have to search for it if you really want to know what it means. Mjroots (talk) 05:19, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merchant service

[edit]

Article states that the ship was purchased out of merchant service, but nothing is said about this. Mjroots (talk) 05:20, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Preston's Patent Ventilating Illuminators

[edit]

Okay, what in the world is a Preston's Patent Ventilating Illuminator? They increase light *and* ventilation, but ah, what? Dean (talk) 15:26, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is an early deck light patented by Grant Preston in 1818 in England. The glass lens can be removed and a ventilating grid/fan substituted, depending on conditions. See this page for patent, description, drawings, pictures. Ian.macky (talk) 16:13, 27 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
