Comment (3 Feb 2011)
[edit]A very interesting and well presented article. One very small point: the correct translation of 'Graf' is Count, not Earl.Miletus (talk) 22:16, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

The Film
[edit]As I recall, a film was later made based on the capture of U-570, the fiction being that it was the Americans who did it. That needs a mention, if a good citation can be found. Not the U-571 film, though. 94.30.84.71 (talk) 16:59, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
Geoffrey Jones RN
[edit]The obituary of Geoffrey Jones refers to this boat http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/military-obituaries/naval-obituaries/8905417/Geoffrey-Jones.html. If anyone more familiar with the subject wants to add it, please feel free. JRPG (talk) 13:04, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Asterices for (presumed) expletive
[edit]The reported incident with the Hudson flashing "This ***** is mine" is interesting. Are the asterices because we don't know what was said, or is someone just being twee? — Preceding unsigned comment added by KiwiBiggles (talk • contribs) 00:09, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
- That's an exact quote of the source. The person relating the anecdote was the one who declined to report the Morse message in full so we're in the position of not knowing for absolute certain what was said. Even if it is fairly obvious from the context.Catsmeat (talk) 19:53, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Food lockers -both before and after consumption.
[edit]Literally an unsavoury point but the line "It was subsequently discovered that in this ship the crew's W.C. had been converted into a food locker" probably refers to standard practice. The excellent film Das Boot has one of the officers tell the narrator Lt Werner that the food lockers will be filled. Submarine experts may be able to confirm this wasn't just the result of a raw crew. JRPG (talk) 10:33, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
A fine array of British War Crimes
[edit]Let me sum up what we have here:
- - The Brits "signalled they would open fire and not rescue survivors from the water" if the crew either scuttled or left their surrendered, damaged and unseaworthy boat
- - A British airplane attacked the boat with bombs and machine guns (AFTER it had surrendered)
- - The crew was strafed with machine guns from a British ship (needless to say, again AFTER it had surrendered)
- - An unarmed member of the crew was shot in the back and killed while allegedly escaping from a prison camp
That's what this article says, not what the Nazi propaganda (who knew nothing of this) claimed. Honi soit qui mal y pense! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:E2:3709:F851:B5E4:B661:1E92:27F8 (talk) 15:06, 6 September 2020 (UTC)
