Leander replacement not influenced by anti-US policies

[edit]

It is true that there was a "deterioration in New Zealand-United States relations" at this time. Actually this is a serious understatement. But this was not a reason to for "the New Zealand government to improve ties with local nations". New Zealand always has had close ties with Australia. What is implied is that NZ bought from Australia rather than from the USA. That is simply not correct, as the USA did not have any suitable new ships.Royalcourtier (talk) 19:40, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Frigate Upgrades

[edit]

The defence & sensors as well as decoys sections needs to be updated as HMNZS Te Kaha is now in her sea trials stage of her upgrades in Canada and will be returning to active duty soon. Thales Smart-S Mk2 Radar, Sharp Eye, CAMM, Rheinmetall MASS, Sea Sentor, Lockheed Martin's Combat Management System 330, Link-16, Infrared search, laser warning, CESM, Navanita Gun Control Unit, Northrop Grumman Mk39 Nav, Sagem Vampir IR Search and Track System, Elbit/Elisra Electronic Support Measures — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2406:5A00:D868:5D00:A148:C10B:4B78:B198 (talk) 06:06, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also the budget of NZD639 million is for both firgates, not just HMNZS Te Kaha — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2406:5A00:D86C:ED00:E54A:FE59:4BBE:4341 (talk) 04:47, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The whole sensor and weapons section needs to be upgraded as HMNZ Te Kaha is back from her refit... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2406:5A00:D882:3100:B4C9:1607:2AEC:C18D (talk) 03:57, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Air defence upgrade

[edit]

The Te Kaha has Sea Sparrow for self-defence against aircraft. This is built into the ship. It is not logical to say that this is "to be upgraded to Sea Ceptor. AGM-119 Mk 2 Mod 7 Penguin Missile launcher", since the latter would be on the helicopter, is an anti-ship missile, and would not be replacing the Sea Sparrow. It is also unlikely that it will ever be delivered due to constant cuts in the defence budgetRoyalcourtier (talk) 19:50, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sea Ceptor is replacing Sea Sparrow and HMNZS Te Kaha is in Canada as we speak getting the upgrades due back later this year. (and Te Mana has just left to start her upgrades.)
  • The SeaSprites already have AGM-119 Mk 2 Mod 7 Penguin Antiship Missile (which replaced the AGM-65 Maverick Missile), However, it does not say that the Penguin is replacing the Sea Sparrow? Its says 'AGM-119 Mk 2 Mod 7 Penguin Missile launched from SH-2G(I) Super Seasprite.' as a separate line. The Mavericks were sold to Peru with the old SeaSprites. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.94.38.207 (talk) 04:52, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

CAMM

[edit]

Under Armament Guns and missiles it says 8-cell Mk 41 VLS for Sea Ceptor surface-to-air missiles. This is wrong as the Mk-41 VLS was removed and they have opted for the native CAMM mushroom launch tubes. 16-20 missiles (total number has not been verified as of yet.) You can see them here in this photo. https://www.reddit.com/r/WarshipPorn/comments/ib9v63/canadian_new_zealand_and_korean_warships_at_cfb/
