HMD and "Nokia"-banded feature phones
[edit]I think sources a little more reliable then news articles is needed to clear this up. Many cited articles say the feature phone business was sold to FiH. Why would they say this if only the manufacturing business was sold to FiH? Also, as far as I know, no source state HMD took on any Microsoft Mobile staff, which you would expect if they purchased the feature phone business (excluding the manufacturing side). Whereas, they do specify a number of staff transferring to FiH. And it's not surprising that HMD is announcing the feature phones, even if they were designed/developed by FiH, since they own the brand rights and are responsible for marketing all "Nokia"-branded devices. - I believe this confusion arised due to the fact that 4 companies/entities are involved in this sale. At MWC is was clear that HMD are the ones involved in developing the devices, not FIH - not to mention FIH weren't even there, or mentioned at the presentation.
- CEO of HMD Arto Numella has had interviews since MWC and has clearly said words confirming that they are behind the devices. A recent one with NDTV, http://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/features/whatsapp-on-nokia-3310-will-carriers-ruin-timely-updates-promise-hmd-global-ceo-arto-nummela-answers-1665654, confirms this. In this, Numella is only talking about the relationship between HMD and Nokia - FIH isn't even mentioned in this or any other review. In the article it says "Nokia has no role in product development and “it’s clear that HMD is owning all the product decisions“". He also talks about the decisions of making the new 3310 a 2G device, about making a Nokia Store, "500 employees and a lot of them are ex-Nokia/ Microsoft employees", and the article even says HMD bought the former Nokia/Microsoft featurephone business. I understand why some people may be confused but this CEO interview alone pretty much confirms that HMD are the developers, and FIH is just a minor entity involved in manufacturing. --Pincerr (talk) 01:24, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
HMD branding
[edit]The HMD brand is only used for corporate purposes and does not appear on devices or advertising
- This is actually incorrect. The HMD Global Oy branding appears on devices like the Nokia 6 (TA-1021) with the text Designed by MHD Global Oy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.222.59.245 (talk) 06:14, 11 August 2017 (UTC)
- I agree with the above. HMD Global appears everywhere, in digital and TV ads at the end wherein they state that "HMD Global is the brand licensee". So, this probably needs a correction. The HMD branding also appears at launch events, presentations and also on the back of most of the phones. Singhnsk (talk) 10:25, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

Nokia 7 Plus redirect removal proposal
[edit]Today I created the Nokia 7 Plus article, but "Nokia 7 plus" still redirects to the Products section of this article, so I propose it be removed. I don't know how else to propose the removal of a redirect, what's the correct way? Jumpbackupagain (talk) 10:15, 7 April 2018 (UTC)
A Chinese company
[edit]Why does it say at the start of the article that HMD is a Chinese mobile phone company? The company is, as is also mentioned in the article, headquartered in Finland and the company type is quite clearly Finish as well.
In both the German and the French articles, HMD is labeled a Finish company, btw. EDIT: I was told by a friend that I should sign my comments even if I don't have a username, so I am doing that now. --85.195.235.250 (talk) 19:29, 8 July 2019 (UTC)
Nokia and Android section
[edit]The section HMD Global#Nokia and Android is almost completely about events before 2016 or even 2015, before HMD existed, so I wonder why this has to be in this article. The same applies to some other parts of the article. Bever (talk) 22:55, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
"bought back"?
[edit]Quote: "The company is made up of the mobile phone business that Nokia sold to Microsoft in 2014, then bought back in 2016."
"bought back" by who? By Nokia? The word "back" is misleading, and does not make sense here. 85.193.208.36 (talk) 19:45, 24 October 2023 (UTC)

HMD Global → HMD (company) – Searching for the company online, including at the company's press page, "HMD" appears to be the WP:COMMONNAME for the company. Wikishovel (talk) 08:41, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:NATURAL. 162 etc. (talk) 19:33, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose WP:PRECISE ambiguous disambiguation is a bad idea. HMD (company) should point to HMD (disambiguation), there being several companies known or abbreviated this way. -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 04:38, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed on both. I didn't think this one through carefully enough, so I'll withdraw the request. Thanks for your posts. Wikishovel (talk) 08:21, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
Where did HMD say that the abbrevation stood for Hon Hai Mobile Devices?
[edit]I am unable to find any source or infomration behind the HMD abbrevation being in place as a short for Hon Hai Mobile Devices. Is any source available? Did HMD ever specify it to be the case? If not, the claim should be removed from the article. Singhnsk (talk) 11:35, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
