Demagnetising
[edit]I was the lucky engineer given the job of demagnetising the engines of this sub, at Cockatoo Island NSW in mid- 1980s. I was not told how these got severely magnetised. A serious handicap because even while submerged an overflying marine bomber could detect the magnetic field. The engines each had a neat nameplate, "SHULTZ" and "KLINK". My assistant was Frank Koyanagi. We had lately demagnetised a 800,000 HP steam turbine at Vales Point Power Station. Submitted by ALEC CAMERON <Removed>
