Expansion request

[edit]

Civil rights and black power leader (later gone bad), little more than a stub -- Jmabel 19:32, Sep 24, 2004 (UTC)

"fiery speech". very clever.

Ummah

[edit]

Ummah should probably have its own article. Until that time, information about it can be included here as he's its leader. Flatterworld (talk) 17:22, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The FBI thinks it's about Ummah, other news reports sound as if it may just be Abdullah and his mosque. 'Developing story', as they say. Flatterworld (talk) 03:18, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RfC

Light bulb iconBAn RfC: Which descriptor, if any, can be added in front of Southern Poverty Law Center when referenced in other articles? has been posted at the Southern Poverty Law Center talk page. Your participation is welcomed. – MrX 16:45, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Both of the Sheriff's deputies whom Brown was convicted of shooting were African-American."

[edit]

Is this really relevant to Brown's biography or his conviction? If not, should it be there? PolarBearInTheJungle (talk) 22:33, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is contextually relevant because H.Rap Brown has always made such an issue of anti-black racism on the part of whites. That he, a black man, ended up gunning down two "brothers" demonstrates a certain hypocrisy. Apostle12 (talk) 06:10, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, it's a relevant and significant fact.Pokey5945 (talk) 01:49, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
that makes it your p.o.v. which is not a valid reason to include it in the article. 75.115.105.98 (talk) 04:20, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Pokey5945, and everyone else, inclusion of The race of the deputies is p.o.v. unless you have secondary sources that can establish its notability. this is obvious and uncontroversial (most articles that reference killings do not find cause to mention the race of the victims in the lede, and the above stated rationale for inclusion is clearly p.o.v.). I am removing the material and please do not revert my edit until and unless you have a reliable secondary source establishing notability. Protocrat (talk) 22:57, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Of course it is. Anyone with the faintest sense of intuition would otherwise assume the officers were white, given Brown's reputation. 199.120.30.195 (talk) 23:10, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

Why is this article named H. Rap Brown when he has changed his name to Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin? The page should be named according to the name which a person uses and a redirect should be created from the previous name.--109.117.175.65 (talk) 21:14, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is there policy that says so? I think the name under which he achieved notability worthy of an article is the better title.Pokey5945 (talk) 20:18, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

based on the above comment, its clear that mentioning the race of the deputies is POV and so I have removed the mention. 75.115.105.98 (talk) 22:11, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is the middle name "Gerold" or "Geroid"? Bethpage89 (talk) 13:39, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

«Violence is necessary. It is as American as cherry pie.»

Middle name

[edit]

Is his birth middle name "Gerold" or "Geroid"? The article now says "Gerold", but the Discover the Networks site gives it as "Geroid". A May 1970 FBI wanted flyer gives it as "GEROID". — Quicksilver (Hydrargyrum)T @ 10:57, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The FBI back in the 60s and 70s frequently misspelled people's names. When they were collecting information on Phil Ochs, they misspelled his name as "OAKES" 199.120.30.235 (talk) 17:45, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming that this is the same wanted flyer you are referring to, the FBI claims that his "true name" is "Hubert Giroid Brown" in the flyer. 199.120.30.204 (talk) 19:24, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
