Marijuana references?

Never mind the supposed marijuana references -- I watched the movie last night, and discovered a less-than subtle reference to cocaine! The movie

Heh heh...I just saw the Pufnstuf movie on Moviepix last night and became an instant fan. Someone should write an article about it, it's right hilarious. Homestarrunner Connection

"The popular website Homestarrunner.com may have gotten some of its ideas from H.R Pufnstuf." However interesting, this statement sounds like conjecture at present and potentially in conflict with the No Original Research Policy. Have either of the creators of Homestarrunner.com acknowledged any influence? If so, it would be best to cite this. At the very least, a source is certainly required, IMHO. Name origins?

It seems like one time I had heard someone on a talk show referring to the name origin of H.R. Pufnstuf. Maybe they said something like the H.R. stood for "Happy Releasing Pufnstuf"? And was a reference to marijuana smoking? Anyone? --Frenkmelk 14:38, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

• According to creator Sid Krofft (who's mentioned this in numerous interviews), the character was to be named simply "Pufnstuf" (which was derived from Puff the Magic Dragon), but the name didn't sound right to him. "H.R." was arrived upon by taking initials from the words "Royal Highness" and flipping them around. Spike McKensie

Who is Spike McKensie (or McKenzie), and why is a reference to an Australian college student's project attached to this (or any) article? Assuming Mr. McKensie inserted this himself, can he or anyone else offer any good reasons why it shouldn't be deleted? Proptology 14:33, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

The film looks surprisingly well-made for a student project; sets, costumes, editing, etc. It doesn't deserve an entire chapter though so I've removed nearly all of it. If you want to go ahead and remove the remainder I'm not bothered. Masaruemoto 01:11, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Schedule

I've removed the following text from the introduction, it's too much detail in an article like this and slows the article down from the start. I've moved it here if anyone really wants to read about ABC's scheduling in 1972. ABC then carried repeats of the series on Saturday mornings from September 16, 1972 to September 8, 1973. From September 16, 1973 until September 1, 1974 ABC offered the show to affiliates on their 90 minute Sunday Morning kids' lineup, which were a mix of reruns of cartoons and children's shows canceled from the previous season. origins of Pufnstuf

Is it worth mentioning that the Pufnstuf character (well, the costume, anyway) was not original to this program? I do not recall whether the character had a name, but he appeared in the Krofft production that appeared as one of the exhibits (Coca-Cola's, I believe) of the San Antonio world's fair in 1968. 172.162.202.253 05:42, 14 June 2007 (UTC)RKH

Movie Remake?

A 2009 movie remake? • The Kroffts have talked about plans to do a new movie of "H.R. Pufnstuf" since the mid-'90s. It's been listed on imdb a few times, but the movie's yet to get a greenlight. With "Land of the Lost" being released later this year, plans for another big-screen outing with "Pufnstuf" and a "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters" movie (both are currently listed on imdb with a release of 2011) have been announced... but they could always fall through again. Where the Wild Things Are

The similarities of the Krofft's oversized living puppets in the new (2009) film "Where The Wild Things Are" is impossible to miss. The plot also reflects a few too many of the Krofft mechanics to ignore... or perhaps it is the other way round??? I was sure it was the Kroffts' work until I saw the Wiki article and no movie credit. Hope someone more knowledgable will follow this up. Jopower (talk) 13:32, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Is there any need to mention the hidden sexual references along with the alleged hidden drug references? The flute wanting Jimmy to play with him? The witches always wanting Jimmy's flute?
