Was AIDS Lavoe's cause of dead?

I have not seen any official information ever about this fact. Official information on Lavoe's cause of death points out to a deterioration of his life condition after he fell down from a 9th floor in hotel after a perfomance in Puerto Rico, in a supposed suicidal attempt, five years back. As far as I know, even the suicidal attempt was never comfirmed by Lavoe and some versions tell that he was possibly drunk at that moment.

I think that the author of this article should cite where he got this information from, because in my opinion is false.

The "suicide attempt" may be questioned as such, but he did fall from a 9th. floor; I personally saw the news film at the time. He was lucky to fall on top of a mini-mall whose roofing material was quite thick, and some curtains on the floors beneath his apartment slowed down his fall. However, he was quite badly battered and bruised, allright(!). Common word out there is that he was under the influence (of what, we don't know exactly), and that he had seen the image of his dead son calling him from outside the window. Therefore, it is quite possible that he had no intention of taking his own life. OTOH, I saw a television interview by Ismael Miranda, where he states that he and Cheo Feliciano made him join an Hogar Crea, but that as soon as he was diagnosed with AIDS he left treatment and went into a tailspin. Willie Colón wrote a tribute column in his website asking for karmic forgiveness from Héctor, since he was too embarrassed and frustrated with the way Héctor's life ended. Hector died from complications from AIDS. Whoever wrote that he commited suicide is a complete moron. The City of New York lists his death as such and he died in a hopsice for people who were battling this plague. To say he commited suicide is a slap to the face of people living with HIV/AIDS. Hector was one the first major Latin celebrities to have perished from this disease.--XLR8TION 17:51, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Mangual, not Milton -- 3rd photo caption incorrect

This photo shows bongocero José Mangual, Jr. on the left, not conguero Milton Cardona. I edited the photo summary, but the main article page with the photo and caption remains incorrect. A Web editor should correct the photo caption on the Héctor Lavoe main article page so that it reads José Mangual, Jr., not Milton Cardona.

Good article nomination on hold

This article is stable, written from a NPOV, has appropriate breadth of coverage, and has good referencing. However, English expression could be improved at times as there are some typos and grammatical errors. Please carefully re-read the article and improve the English expression where possible.

In terms of content I wonder if a sub-section in the body of the article on Lavoe's work with The Fania All Stars might be appropriate, given the many songs he apparently recorded with them. More importantly, the lead section (see WP:LEAD) should be improved by adding some inline citations, splitting the content into more paragraphs (probably four), and fixing typos towards the end such as "frecuently" instead of "frequently", and "seeked" instead of "sought".

I've decided to put this article on hold as the article is close to GA status, however the issues noted above must be dealt with before GA status can be awarded. I hope that this can be addressed within the seven days allowed by on hold, and wish you all the best with your editing... -- Johnfos 04:45, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for reviewing, I will make sure to do what I can to improve the lead and attend the suggestions you make when I log back tommorow. If its not much to ask can you please be more especific about the English expression issues? if you can list them here it would be great since I can look for typos and such things but grammar corrections aren't really my stregth. - 04:53, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

I've taken the intitiative and have made the necessary changes relating to English expression. Now it's over to you... -- Johnfos 13:13, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

I am working with a sub section on my pc, it should be ready no later than thursday or wednesday, cheers. - 02:02, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
I added what I wrote to "Lavoe goes solo" instead of creating a whole new subsection, the section seemed small and a new sub section would be small, so to avoid people saying we are adding to many headers I added it there. So what do you think about it does it pass GA as it is or is somethibg else needed? - 23:57, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

That looks good. The one remaining thing to do is add some more in-text citations to the lead. -- Johnfos 01:22, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Done :) - 01:59, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
