Remove

Incidentally since my contribution is so problematical, you need to remove my photos. I'm sure that constitutes some conflict. The main photo, the photo of feather, and the hock photo are ones I took and are of horses I have owned. In addition, source 61 is also something I wrote and published. Those really should be removed. SFGMary (talk) 22:53, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Why not do something like this article, which provides a summary by country? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payday_loan

It would take major rework, with the generic stuff up front and then a recap for each country? 71.88.11.208 (talk) 18:21, 18 July 2017 (UTC)

The summary by country approach would be a good move towards balancing the article, it would make the differences clearer to the reader, and fix some of the undue weight issues.
I could transcribe that Henry Connors interview if you're interested, but I'm not sure how relevant it is since they're only talking about a small number of his own horses. It would be useful to clarify that the horses often mentioned (The Coal Horse, Roadsweeper etc.) are believed to be the foundation of the US stock specifically, because some sources aren't as clear about that point and it leads to some confusion as to when the breed was developed!
As an aside, having just seen The Old Horse Of Wales (born 1985), have the Thompsons ever broached the fact that he clearly has Welsh Cob blood too? If crossing out from the Irish Cob is accepted, that could make a further case for separate pages altogether. Any thoughts?Wasechun tashunka (talk) 19:53, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
After a little bit more digging into the Old Horse Of Wales line, it turns out that the owner/breeder of the horse has since been jailed and banned from owning horses due to mass overbreeding for export, passport irregularities and cruelty resulting in multiple horse deaths[1][2][3][4], so it's no wonder that his horses were of dubious breeding. I'm not quite sure if this sways the page-splitting argument one way or the other.Wasechun tashunka (talk) 20:07, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
  • Summary by country is poor writing form. The first thing we need to do is get appropriate sources. This talkpage discussion isn't really making much progress. I suggest we create a new section, generate sources and look at them for suitability. From there, we write. As far as I am concerned, source material that those of us who are neutral third parties add is fine even if it happens to be authored by another WP editor. The content stands for itself. Genetic disease

Needs to go into article. Montanabw(talk) 02:57, 28 September 2017 (UTC): http://www.thehorse.com/articles/39703/foal-immunodeficiency-syndrome-test-available-from-gluck?utm_source=Newsletter&utm_medium=health-news&utm_campaign=09-26-2017

Go ahead and add it! Although we'll need an WP:RS for it, as thehorse.com is user content and animalgenetics.us is a commercial site. The introduction via outcrossing is an interesting point, this paper also mentions positive FIS tests in "coloured horses and ponies" with Fell/Dales bloodlines, although it would be extrapolation to take "coloured horse" to mean Gypsy Cob. It certainly needs to go on the Fell pony page anyway, it's already on Dales pony. You may as well also mention the other genetic defects and hereditary diseases that plague the breed, such as Polysacharride storage myopathy and Lymphedema. The Horse is not "user content," it is published by Blood-Horse publications and is the flagship publication of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and as such is a highly reliable source. Their source is Gluck, which is a branch of the University of Kentucky, I think, thus also RS. (I'm not a fan of animalgenetics.us, other than to say that a test exists...) I'm a bit busy right now (catching up on about a three week backlog on my watchlist along with real life stuff...) but if you want to pref the ref citations and propose a short paragraph, I'm glad to help tweak the phrasing... I have done the same at Friesian horse, American Quarter Horse, Arabian horse, and so on... I think it is super important to note possible genetic diseases on all these breed articles where we can; they do something similar at WP:DOGS too. Montanabw(talk) 18:55, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
I've seen a lot of articles at The Horse that are blog type or op-ed stuff; I think their standards may be slipping. (Like most of the media.) This particular one is legit and should be here though. White Arabian Filly Neigh 21:12, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
I've also seen many articles at TheHorse that are certainly not reliable. My issue with this particular article is that, although relevant research is carried out at Gluck, the article references a commercial service offered by the institute, and is written by a marketing manager from the institute promoting the service, therefore, it falls under the category of native advertising. It would be better from a WP:RS pov to find an unbiased source disseminating the information, but the information itself is valid, regardless. Wasechun tashunkaHOWLTRACK 21:28, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
I think the deal is that some of their online stuff are reprints of their magazine articles and some are hosted blogs. That means the site 's partly reliable and partly not and we just have to evaluate each article individually before using it here. White Arabian Filly Neigh 21:38, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
