Image Help

This article would be greatly improved with an image can be included. There are images of Guy wearing a Topmiler, but we would need permission to use them due to copyright. So if anyone can get an image, that would be great.

There are a couple of photos of a game in progress on Flickr [1], taken by script writer James Henry, but again permission would be required. —82.46.154.93 01:31, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Not deserving of own article

Come ONNNN fellas - while Green Wing is hilarious, is there any call for a separate encyclopaedia article about a fictitious game that is mentioned in a single episode? I think not... ElectricRay 22:21, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I believe it is. Firstly of all, it is mentioned in several episodes, mostly in series 2. Secondly, it might be mentioned more heavily in the Chirstmas Special. Thirdly, if you were to leave it out, it would like not mentioning Mornington Crescent in I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue! Guyball is interesting, and should have it's own article.

Mornington Crescent has spawned its own life - there are books, websites and entirely distinct radio shows about it, etc. Not sure if Guyball is quite there yet. Not denying it is funny, though... ElectricRay 08:59, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

The wikipedia entry for Guyball has been mentioned in the British Sitcom Guide's Green Wing newsletter. If it is mentioned in the newsletter, then it should deserve an entry. ISD 18:35, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm - I reluctantly acquiesce, but I don't find this very compelling - a bit circular, no? It's notable enough to be included in Wikipedia because the Wikipedia entry has been cited by the public source? ElectricRay 16:03, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

I personally think it is deserving of a place. It is played in real life (if only on a small scale) and it appears to still be experiencing considerable growth. THe article is well structured and worded, and the image is relevant and useful. --Reverieuk 16:20, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

I think it should stay, not because it played a minor role in a sitcom, but because now people actually play it. That makes it a sport and deserving of a place on Wikipedia.62.252.228.126 19:56, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Queen Elizabeth's High School, Lincolnshire

Someone added something about Guyball being played at Queen Elizabeth's High School. However, there appears to be no proof to this claim. Is there any proof that Guyball is actually played there. GA on hold

Before you ask, this review was composed offline...so yeah, here's what I got.

• I'm a bit concerned that virtually all the sources are from Green Wing DVDs, scripts, and the like. Whilst this is OK for you, the author, who obviously has them in your posession, it's a bit hard for me if I want to learn more about Guyball to do so without buying a lot of DVD box sets. Was this ever mentioned in the news (and if no, is it even notable?) - are there any internet sources concerning it? This is my #1 concern about the article, and I don't want to pass it in the current state of 3 web sources.

Some other things...

• "is a fictional game featured and (somewhat) described in the British sitcom Green Wing." - how is it SOMEWHAT described - either it is, or it isn't, in my eyes...
• The lead is rather long. I think the 2nd and 4th paragraphs could be mostly merged, and the 3rd could be trimmed to exclude all speculative information ("and quite possibly by other fictional games whose rules are semi-fixed at best, such as Calvinball and Mornington Crescent" etc.)
• "for getting away with shouting abuse at a group of children (see below)" - I looked below and din't see this mentioned again.
• The Topmiler construction section is crufty and unencyclopediac, I'd remove it completely.
• 2006 should not be wikilinked - see WP:DATE.
• "Jake Leaf, East Hampton Hospital's alternative therapist and the object of Dr Caroline Todd's short-lived affections towards the end of series two, does not play Guyball; however, he succeeded in discomfiting Guy by putting on a topmiler and claiming he did. He said his settle rate was 37, with alternate stickles. Guy grudgingly admitted that this was very good. When asked for his own settle rate, Guy claimed to have forgotten it.[1]" - This really has nothing to do with the encyclopediac content of this article, especially the first part of it. An explanation of what the hell settle rate is would be handy, though.
• "In The Complete First Series Scripts, there is a letter from the Olympic Committee to Guy about making Guyball an Olympic sport" - Reword to;
  • Guy recieves a letter from the International Olympic Commitee concerning the induction of Guyball as an Olympic sport, in The Complete First Series Scripts."
• "forming their own rules and forming societies." - Remove repeated use of "forming", change to "forming their own rules and societies." (etc.)
• "The only copy of the rules is on the society's MySpace page" - The MySpace page could be used as a ref here, if the spam filter allows it.
• "So far, only two only recorded games of Guyball to have been played in real-life" - Reword;
  • "Only two recorded games of Guyball have been recorded in real life" (even that sounds bad, but it's the best I could think of)
• "It wasplayed by the actors..." - "It was played by the actors..." (space)
• Brook Green is a redlink - is it likely to be created, or can the link be removed?
• "During the six-on-six match, the played Geneva variation, with free fuddles, geometric stickles, and players were asked to "watch you coccyxes"." - Reword;
  • "The six-on-six match was played using the Geneva variation, wiht free fuddes and geometric sticles. Players were asked to "watch you coccyxes" before the match commenced."
• Whilst it's not part of the article, the tempate used at the bottom (the Green Wing navigation template) should include "v d e" links, as is a custom with templates. An example can be found on {{Powderfinger}}, and countless others, although I'm not sure how to implement them on a TV related template.

I've carried out most of the requirements you asked for. However, I've had difficulty finding out more links, such as news stories. The MySpace page was blocked by the spam filter, but I have put it up for recommendation to be cleared. ISD 13:22, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Infromation on other Guyball Societies

If you plan to add information on another Guyball society, please reference it with some form of reliable source. This is unrelated to the above post, but I couldn't find where else to put it, the section about the "topmiler" may be inaccurate, the way the topmiler is described in the series makes it seem that the term "topmiler" is not a term that is applicable to all guyball hat-things, but specifically to the type or model hat Guy Secretan uses. Just a thought, for example he says to Martin Dear "No, that's a championship standard topmiler!"
