Gus has Died

[edit]

It has been widely reported on Sydney TV 6.30 news, ie TCN 9, that Gus Mercurio died during surgery. An IP editor updated, without references. Have looked(Googled actually!) but so far no sources at all. - 220.101 talk\Contribs 07:39, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now confirmed by ABC News online [1] Google and a few of the other search engines along with the local (Australian) news sites are slow picking up on the story. Sad to see him go. He was always at his best when talking about boxing. Fat Guts100 (talk) 08:23, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Fat Guts100 (talk · contribs) Yes, I found it too. Actually added to the article by JackofOz (talk · contribs). I added a few details to the ref. Unfortnately it is now that he will get a decent article written about him as this is when a lot tends to come out, only after a person has died. Please contribute, while gving due regard to policy, especially Biogaphy of Living persons policy, which AFAIK still applies. - 220.101 talk\Contribs 08:44, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sun Herald Quotes Wikipedia?

[edit]

The The Sun-Herald web site appears to 'closely paraphrase' parts of this article here: [Actor and boxing legend Gus Mercurio dies, aged 82] by Fiona Byrne as published December 07, 2010 6:56PM (AEDST=UTC+11:00)
I hope the bit about him being a chiropracter is true as we (WP) have no reference for it. Beware of circular referencing, ie don't use this article as a reference for Gus Mercurio being a chiropractor, other details are obviously sourced elsewhere. - 220.101 talk\Contribs 10:26, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to aussiebox.com.au, one of the existing external links on the page, it is true. (see para. 3-4)
"Upon completing military service, Mercurio turned professional, and after being injured in his last two bouts, and being fixed by a Chiropractor, he decided to study Chiropractic at a university in Davenport, Iowa for a four-year degree. Upon graduation he went to California and did post graduate work."
