I do not believe that it comes from gora, mountain. A Russian scholar once said that mixup of the dark vowels, e.g. Gorski or Gurski, is unlikely for the Russians/Slavs. My idea is that it probably comes from the Dynasty of Gur (see wikipedia article). And then there is the biblical Name Hur (as in Ben Hur) but in Russian that turns to Gur because they do not have an H.
