Fix

[edit]

FIXME: text says "originally 9 volumes", but manga info-block says "volumes: 8". Seems to me one of these is wrong? Don't know which one though??? 195.35.160.133 12:19, 30 October 2007 (UTC) Martin.[reply]

I was the one who expanded the original article on Gunsmith Cats to include the anime. It would be a good idea.

on Rally

[edit]

The article said that Rally was taciturn among men. In all social (i.e. non-combat and non-threatening) situations with men she seems to do as much talking as the guy or guys. It is much more appropriate to say that she is a bit reserved among men. I have taking the liberty to edit that.

I've also heard that Konichi Sonada had cast Rally as a lesbian, but she's celebate.
Also, in the future, you should sign your posts in the talk page. It's very easy. After your message, just place four "~" behind it. BiggKwell 20:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
All right I'll try to keep that in mind Sensemaker 11:21, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Something additional to mention about Rally in the manga version maybe:
She seems to be left-handed. Maybe a useless information, but think of the main protagonist of the popular game "Legend of Zelda"... :Jackpayback 09:47, 21 February 2007 (UTC):[reply]
The current Dark Horse translations are flipped, so if she's a lefty in those she's a righty in the anime, the original manga, and the upcoming unflipped translations of GSC Burst. And indeed, you can see on the DVD cover pictured at the top of this article that she's a righty. DenisMoskowitz 14:58, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation, you are right... That does explain some things in the manga version. Talk about mirrors. In that case, my bad, sorry about that one :) Jackpayback 17:11, 24 February 2007 (UTC):[reply]

I have heard that Rally is a lesbian. Someone mentioned to me that she is in a lesbian relationship in a, as of yet, untranslated manga —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.119.210.17 (talk) 05:42, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are we certain that Rally was 18 and May was 17 in the original Japanese comic? This Japanese fanpage seems to say otherwise. Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and change it, and any objections can be brought up and discussed here? --67.182.138.63 04:20, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

on Misty

[edit]

The article says on Becky: "She is prone to becoming a damsel in distress, and subsequently has to be bailed out by her friends." All the female protagonists and many of the males are taken hostage, abducted or seconds from being killed and subsequently saved by someone else of the other female protagonists. Is Misty really more prone to becoming a damsel in distress than anyone else?

Looks like someone put the merge tag on that article and then forgot to start the discussion. I think they should definitely merge - this article is about both forms. DenisMoskowitz 02:13, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, the information is already there, it's pertinent, and it would only streamline Wikipedia even more. Junk Jungle

realism

[edit]

Since this anime is set in a real, popular, populous American city, it is worth mentioning actual gun laws and restrictions there, as it would impinge on the subject matter in question and furthermore to make sure that such laws are clear.

The reason I'm saying this is because in quite a few districts of Chicago the possession of a handgun is totally illegal and furthermore, in just about every place in the USA, it's illegal to travel around with a gun at easy access. I'm told that many other countries see the US as cowboys with liberal gun laws, and although this seems like a lot of scholarship for such a tangent, I think the clarification is worth it.

Not that it keeps criminals from packing around there. Man, my hometown is so shady. --72.234.146.18 08:21, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"...furthermore, in just about every place in the USA, it's illegal to travel around with a gun at easy access." This is pretty inaccurate, especially when it's a plot-point in the manga that Rally needs to have her doctor sign off on her CCW/CHL and- during the interim- puts her cell phone in her holster. Licensed persons, like Rally, can carry guns on their person. An Illinois CCW is recognized in 40 of 50 states... but let's not forget that GSC is a period piece occurring in the late 80s to early 90s, before the advent of the Brady Bill and other gun control measures.

In my opinion you're right. There is a lot of misperception of American gun laws and this probably comes from fiction like Gunsmith Cats. This article is a good place to fight such prejudice. Sensemaker 11:24, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Popularity?

[edit]

Would be great if there are some sections about the popularity in the US and so on...--sin-man 04:17, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Offtopic: Why has there actually been no other films up to now?

[edit]

(This is just an off the topic chitchat about how a series of this anime could look like by the way. If some find it inappropiate. Do say so before deleting this discussion.)

Up to now, I've always been surprised why only three OVAs were ever produced. I mean, at times where long lived and somewhat 'popular' mangas are normally picked up into the "animated instance" producing, if you know what I mean.

Both Rally and May are just adorable. Man, I wonder if they even made a live action out this - why I wonder this? I just saw a CUTEY HONEY live action movie on dvd just now at my video shop... <quiet voice> cutey honey.

I can imagine this being made as a short kind of series consisting 30mins of episodes or something alike. A dude like me is just a fan of female protagonists. Remember Ripley from Alien, don't you? :)

I can only say Kudos to Sonada for developing such character (but that is just my opinion). None the less, take the way how the manga's storytelling is shown. While one Manga consists of one main plot, it is cut into pieces with sub-chapters, showing most of the time artwork and an appropiate name to what is happening in that sub-chapter. For instance, "Bad Trip" or "Fifty Caliber" - it reminds me of the way how "Navy CIS" (CBS TV drama) does its sub-chapter, the black-and-white effect I mentioned in the discussion section there.

Anywys, is there any information considering why no other animes of GSC were ever produced - like Author's comment upon that topic and such?

Jackpayback 17:05, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just as an interesting aside, there was, in fact, a fairly popular radio show of the series aired in Japan. I was a little surprised to not find info on this in the article, so I shall do my best to see if I can find any sort of reputable site to back this info up. Leishu 20:27, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Separate Rally Wiki page

[edit]

I've gotten together a separate Wiki page for Rally Vincent, but have yet to post it. What I like to know is how to put together a infobox for her profile. Elwin Blaine Coldiron 05:34, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rally's father's ethnicity

[edit]

Does anyone have a citation clarifying whether Rally's father is East Indian or Native American?DenisMoskowitz 11:55, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would assume he is supposed to be Indian as in South Asian, based on his build, plus the fact that the characters speculate on Bean Bandit's ethnicity at one point and specifically refer to him as a "Native American Dude" (this may be a misquote, I don't recall where this was in the story). The distinction in terminology seems to me to suggest that Sonoda meant India when he said Indian. Furthermore, the shade of Rally's and her dad's skin vs. Bean's much lighter skin suggest a different origin. While it's hardly conclusive I'd say it's a more persuasive argument. I'm therefore going to change the article to reflect South Asian rather than Native American. YourMessageHere 19:18, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Character spinoff

[edit]

The descriptions are great and all, but the section has gotten overly long. Planning to spin them off into their own space with brief mentions of the main characters on here. --BrokenSphere 22:12, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Minnie May, growth-stunting and the revised edition

[edit]

From the article:

"May is tiny and young-appearing for her age, having taken growth-stunting herbal drugs in an effort to stay attractive to her possibly pedophiliac boyfriend Ken Takizawa (this plot element was modified in the first English translation to a condition that she is taking drugs in an attempt to correct)."

This is also true in the Dark Horse Revised Edition. In Volume 2, on page 349, May visits Granny Hao. On page 350, Granny Hao says:

"You're a puzzling case, May, you surely are, I would have sworn those ancient techniques would work. But look on the good side ... even years later your true love could recognize you at a glance."

She continues on page 351:

"We really tried, though, didn't we? I remember you thought that if you could just look more grown up, your love wouldn't feel so strange about being with you ... it's kind of sad."

Cheers.

Rally Vincent wasn't born in England

[edit]

Only the Riding Bean OVA version of Rally was, and that wasn't even the same Rally. The only similarities were the name. No where in the manga or Gunsmith Cats OVA does it mention she was born in England. --User:Kacen

I agree with the above. I read that Riding Bean was the "original" and that after there were licensing disputes, Gunsmith Cats was created and some characters (like Rally) were changed. Therefore Riding Bean cannot be considered to be the same canon as Gunsmith Cats.70.79.50.5 (talk) 11:03, 24 July 2010 (UTC)BeeCier[reply]

Inspector Percy

[edit]

Although he's mainly from Riding Bean, he reappeared in the Gunsmith Cats world in Gunsmith Cats Burst volumes 2, 3 and 4. Should we include him in the Gunsmith Cats entry as well?--Sd-100 (talk) 11:45, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bulletproof not a movie.

[edit]

The Bulletproof edition of the anime is not a movie. I have an original VHS tape, it's simply the three episodes, all with openings and end credits, on a single tape. It even has a "disclaimer" saying it has three 30 minute episodes before the first episode. Bizzybody (talk) 04:34, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
