From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 15 million ounce Guerrero Gold Belt (GGB) is a mining area in the state of Guerrero that spans over 80 km in length just north of Acapulco city. In the early 1990’s, approximately 250,000 ounces of Gold were discovered which has now significantly increased to over 15 million ounces of Gold in just over two decades, in large part to David M. Jones’ exploration model, who was the former exploration manager for Teck in the 1990’s responsible for finding the 8 million ounce Los Filos deposit within the Guerrero Gold Belt.

The Guerrero Gold Belt trends northwest to southeast, remaining open to exploration in all directions. Numerous discoveries are being developed including Torex Gold’s 3.92 million ounce Los Guajes deposit, Esperanza’s 1.1 million ounce Cerro Jumil deposit and Newstrike’s Ana Paula project. The belt is characterized as an emerging district because it is “BIG”, multiple deposits discovered by common geological characteristics, and “SYSTEMATIC”, formed by the same geological processes.
